Do yourself a favor and send your kid to Jefferson. The way staff treat students, ESPECIALLY those with special needs, makes me violently sick. The principal, the administration staff, counselors and even the nurse are nothing more than mere bullies, who will lie straight to parents faces to cover and protect themselves. Setting aside my own personal problems with this school, I have heard time and time again from previous students and their parents about their treatment by staff members. They would rather look a problematic child in the eyes and tell them they should drop out because there's no hope for them, rather than actually help them when they are struggling. Their IEP program is a huge joke, and offers little to none extra assistance for children that need it, and oftentimes will leave children so far behind that it's near impossible for them to catch up to. They pick favorites, and pick on the rest. I have seen nothing but trauma and pain from this school, especially from children with mental health problems or disabilities. Any child I have ever seen that has had a problem whether academically or internally within the school, excelled as soon as they transferred to Jefferson. Jefferson is a far superior school in every way possible.

This school was the worst experience of my life. The teachers and staff ignore bullying, even when brought to their attention. There’s “no evidence” and they “didn’t see it”, so it can’t be true. The nurse is the rudest person I’ve ever met. Worse than the principal. They don’t care about your child or their grades, unless, of course, you’re an athlete. Don’t bother with this school. Your kids would be better off at Jefferson High School.

During my stay at Washington Highschool, I can confirm that most teachers could care less about their students, and are more worried about their personal agendas. Teachers here lack enthusiasm and seem to have a hard time actually connecting with students. I can say, as a student here I can barely remember a single lesson, and teachers never left a big impact. I have barely seen the principle out in the halls, and I don't believe I've ever said a word to her, nor has she had a conversation with me. As I said earlier, teachers lack emotional connection with students. They don't know how to relate to us, and their lessons are awfully boring. Teachers need to bring interaction into their lessons, instead of constant note taking and constant busy-work

It just feels like the children are all meant to fit a mold. They are all different and have different needs, do not label. Not a good experience as a parent and my boys feel the same. Doctors notes given but child considered absent anyway, I guess we should keep kids from getting serious medical issues.

If you are considering moving to this area and have school aged children RUN...don't walk elsewhere. This school is run by small town bureaucrats that are very unwelcoming to newcomers. They concentrate on meaningless ideals and have no idea what these kids actually need to succeed in life outside a small community. Washington HS has not met the AYP in a number of years and the principal is more concerned with her own personal agenda than the well being of the children. There is absolutely zero communication with the parents and her lack of leadership and knowledge has been exhibited on a number of occasions such as allowing children to miss buses when sporting events have been cancelled and she didn't have enough insight to verify facts before the end of the day and shrugs her shoulders and says I didn't know. News flash...it is your job to know! If this is the best school in WV it is no wonder WV is 48th in country for education!
