Stevens Point Area Senior High School

AlumniI went to SPASH and really enjoyed my time there. Starting school as a Sophmore I was very dedicated and received lots of attention from the teachers. I felt engaged in the programs and had lots of opportunities to learn. However, when I lost interest in school I began to be ignored by most teachers. Looking back on my years there I feel this is not ideal but understandable. I should say that even at my worst there were one or two teachers who really cared and believed in me. These teachers are at SPASH. There are excellent teachers in almost every department, however there are also some pretty bad ones as well. McAdams, the school's football coach, was particularly atrocious. Overall a good school with lots of options but you get out what you put in at SPASH.

We have been the host family for high school age junior hockey players that have come to play hockey here from Los Angelos, Detroit, Barrington IL, and Elk Grove Village IL. The parents and students have all enthusiastically remarked about how much better Stevens Point Area Senior High School is than the schools they came from. Keep in mind these are families that have money to send their kids off to play junior hockey so they come from some nice neighborhoods. They said the school is much better as we actually have teachers who care about the students. The players also say that the teachers in general are more wierd and they describe some hippie type behaviors. I also understand that they spend a a lot of classroom instruction time watching videos. For instance, my son watched the movie Moby Dick for literature class. The teacher said it was to develop an appreciation for story structure, character development, medaphor usage, etc. I moved here from the west suburbs of Chicago. I concur, the teachers do care. I also find that parents are involved when it comes to sports, but not-so-much when it comes to school. Forget school when it's hunting season.
