Posted by a parent on 3/4/2024Our 7th grader is having a great experience at SIS. Middle school is a rough period in general, and SIS has been a great place to go through this wacky hormonal ride. Teachers have been supportive and flexible and I can see my 7th grader becoming more independent and responsible for his own learning.
Posted by a parent on 2/26/2024The school has a WI State Teacher of the Year. They have engaging projects, offer many unique classes, strong programs if you take advantage of them and offer a positive learning environment. While we have a few smaller issues with SIS, overall, our child's experience and ours has been very strong. While I do think there are some areas of growth for the leadership and a few areas of growth about keeping expectations high for student engagement and the complexity of instruction, overall, the school is strong and we are lucky to have strong teachers and a great school community in SIS and overall in the district.I also believe that while strong state assessment results are not the goal by any means, they are a symptom of a strong education -- but only one factor among many. When students are done with their schooling, people rarely ask them about their state assessment results, but often want to know about their character and the quality of the work they produce. This is the area of excellence that schools should spend time focusing on.Our child's experience has been strong positive.I think that SIS has some areas of growth, but the overall picture is one of quality.
Posted by a parent on 2/13/2024As a parent of a current student I've loved SIS so far. The students get great guidance and teaching, and access to wonderful clubs and opportunities, but are also allowed the freedom to figure out who they are and gain life experience.
Posted by a parent on 2/9/2024Rating 5 out of 5 My child is in 7th grade at SIS. At nearly 6 months in, we've had a great experience. Classes seem appropriately challenging and interesting. A project that taught student to use coding to light the Hoan Bridge was a highlight! Daily orchestra (band or choir for some students) has been a delight - we are impressed by the progress in violin skills. The school culture seems appropriately strict in regards to phones and other distractions. I love that all 7th graders must choose a club to become involved in- what a great way to encourage exploration and participation. Most teachers have communicated what is happening in the classroom regularly and seem easy to reach, when we meet with them at conferences and open house the passion for the school and students are evident. I was nervous about the middle school years, but SIS has been a soft landing. It feels like the perfect place for my child to grow in independence with oversight and guidance from skilled, caring teachers.
