Read what parents are saying about EdisonThere is a no tolerance policy for bullyiing, but it is not enforced against the ones doing the bullying. The children being bullied are the ones who are supposed to have the problem and they are punished. Be it by having to talk to a counsler or giving up thier recess to sit in an office so that they are safe. Not a good school to have children enrolled in.
Posted by a parent on 2/29/2016My son just started there.. I was pulled into the office by a " counslor " and litterly asked why my sons clothes are too tight. I was ataken back. My son has all brand new clothes and i proceded to show the counslor that actually my sons clothes are big and asked her if she seen the same dirty kids i seen in her school with dirty clothes and holes in their pants. I asked why she isnt bothering those parents. Im appauled im offended and my feelings are so hurt i dont even want my son in that school. Im so uncomfortable.
Posted by a parent on 9/19/2015My son has gone to edison for a few years. Love how diverse it is. My kids learns Spanish and Russian from his classmates. Like any school it has its struggles but the staff genuinely care and want to make the school better each day. We had the option to attend a higher rated north Tacoma school but we wanted to keep our kid at Edison. My youngest can't wait to attend.
Posted by a parent on 3/22/20152014-2015: First time at this school. The leadership, specifically the principle is an elitist, who is out of touch with this community, clearly not from this district, not understanding or sharing the values of this school. I have never seen her. In the events that it required me or my husband to interact with her she has pushed us off on the assistant principle. I hope TPS finds someone who is more capable of running the school and who can understand the needs of this community. I don't want to feel like I'm dealing with someone who would rather not have to work in or around people like me. People of this side of Tacoma.

Edison Elementary School is an exciting environment for rich learning experiences and social development for its 500+ students. At Edison Elementary, we believe that all students are capable of success. Situated in South Tacoma's Edison neighborhood, Edison Elementary has a rich legacy of academic excellence. At Edison Elementary, we take pride in the leadership potential of our students. In fact, Mayor Marilyn Strickland is a graduate of Edison Elementary. 4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThey literally have students assaulting and spitting on each other and repeatedly refuse to document it or notify parents. I understand that the public school system as a whole is broken but the admins here genuinely do not care for the safety and wellbeing of the children in their care.Other Review1y ago - Fawcett

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageConcering 1st Grade.Learning: Report cards are based off digital scores, and students are hardly not monitored/left alone when using i-Ready computers. I-Ready is recommended for 13yrs+, however is given to children as young as 5 years old, and use this as a crutch to distract children during critical engagement time.Teaching: Teachers spend most time on computer, data "mining", and meeting with each other, rather than engaging with students.Social Emotional Support: Teachers and administration staff are typically unapproachable. And are dismissive, gaslight, and deflect any accountability.Special Education: Always misses scheduled IEP appointments by calling in sick, doesn't make up for scheduled missed days.Safety: No accountability for boys who are overly-aggressive towards girls. Constant bullying, fat-shaming, and physical violence.Family Engagement: Attempted to block my personal familial engagement during specific family-entertainment hours like paint-night, picture-taking, by leaving me in the dark about specific and important dates/information.Other Review10mo ago - Hope School
