Read what parents are saying about First Colony Middle SchoolTeachers and academic staff lowered their standards towards children. The education quality is poor, some teachers should retire. They lack of patience. They insult the children. Also, there have been a lot of fights among the students. Many people have moved to Sugar Land and made it worse.
Posted by a parent on 2/21/2024FCMS is a great place to be. My son had wonderful teachers for the last 2 years. The teachers don’t give out a lot of homework. School communication is very timely. I appreciate everything the staff does at this school to make my child feel safe.
Posted by a parent on 7/30/2022There are others who have reviewed this school as being very dismissive in the areas of justice toward kids who are either bullied or forced to defend themselves. The reviews were absolutely correct. The school's administration makes bullies feel more empowered because someone defending themselves against bullies is held just as responsible as the offender. There are multiple fights at this school this year. And it's only NOVEMBER! Worse, they put innocent bystanders in hostile positions by calling them into their offices as witnesses. You can be a child who witnessed a fight in route to your class. But you are required to give witness statements to faculty. In a school where students are so hostile, this endangers innocent students! First Colony, tighten up on your own security methods among those who are on the district payroll and stop relying on these innocent students to do your security jobs for you! These are kids! Stop supporting bullies and stop penalizing someone from defending themselves. All parents whose children are constantly at risk of peer retaliation due to having to be witnesses of constant student fights that they see should contact both district and state TEA to report this school. Hostile students who will fight one student in school are willing to fight other students who are forced to witness against them. This is not a safe environment for children trying to focus on their school work without the distraction of conduct issues that the administration obviously cannot control.
Posted by a parent on 11/4/2021This is the best school ever and I want to be a teacher here in my future.
Posted by a student on 4/18/2019This school is TERRIBLE! The staff has no concern for student safety. In less than 6 months, mind you this includes summer months each of my children were assaulted by other students due to negligent supervision. Neither of my children were the aggressors, but still recieved punishment because believed they can define self defense. We will not be returning.

10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI'm so disappointed with Commonwealth. We've made several interstate moves and I rely fairly heavily on GreatSchools, which is what has prompted me to write this review. Commonwealth absolutely does not deserve such great ratings. I think that is a hold-over from maybe 10+ years ago. We've lived here for almost 5 years now, and the school (as well as all of Fort Bend Independent School District) has been nothing but disappointing, angering, and it continues to devolve. The situation will not improve while Dr. Dupre is the head of FBISD and Dr. Bogle is the principal of CWE. CWE is built for roughly 680 students and currently holds over 1100! And there is no immediate plan to address this issue. The number of janitors is decided based on square footage of the building, not the number of students, and the condition of the boys' bathrooms have been compared to the worst possible public restrooms. Parents refuse to go in them, and kids simply do not go all day to avoid them. It's Texas and so it is extremely hot for fairly extended periods of the year. At the beginning of this school year, several classrooms (some out in the portable trailers) were without air condition for multiple days. There was no communication from the staff to the parents. Kids were coming home flushed and sweaty, and my parent chatroom discussed kids even vomiting and passing out! My boys frequently tell me they've had "silent lunches" or "walking recesses" and recess time is frequently cut. There are lots of punitive threats - finish your daily work or you'll go to the principal, finish your work or you'll finish it in the principal's office, finish your work or you'll stay back from the class field trip. One day the students were inexplicably dismissed 15 minutes early in pouring rain, again with no communication to the parents. I found children (my 3 boys included) soaking wet and up to almost 1/2 mile from the school. The school is currently more than 70% Asian. It's been very difficult for my kids socially and has invariably affected other aspects of the school, including discipline, the PTA, parent volunteers, etc. I say this mainly as a data point. I did not expect it, and we've learned a lot particularly in the last 2 years as this area continues to grow and change.Parent Review5y ago - Riverbend Montessori School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a parent, choosing the right school for our children is one of the most important decisions we make. After experiencing St. Laurence Catholic School, I can confidently say that it has exceeded all our expectations in providing an exceptional education intertwined with strong Catholic values.St. Laurence is not just a school; it's a place where young minds are nurtured, faith is deepened, and values are instilled. The combination of outstanding academics, unwavering Catholic values, and a strong sense of community make SLCS an exceptional choice for parents seeking a well-rounded education for their children. I am grateful for the positive impact it has had on my child's life and highly recommend it to anyone seeking a Catholic education of the highest quality.Parent Review6mo ago - The Honor Roll School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageRepetitive learning curriculum, not advanced at all. Lack of school regulation for campus safety. Some teachers treat students poorly. And they don't think young children can advocate for themselves and complaint about the teachers' unfair treatment in school to the parents.Parent Review1mo ago
