Read what parents are saying about Shadycrest Elementary SchoolPretty cool, I liked it. It wasn't amazing but it worked.
Posted by a community member on 1/19/2024Good academics. Good for the abled. Wonderful for the severely disabled. Unfortunately, there is no box to check for children that are in the margins between ability and disability. Federal funding requires the children to be placed in a category. The child is then treated as the category, not as an individual. Whether or not the child belongs in the assigned category or even matches the category definitions is apparently not the problem of the school. This is the first year (it is now 2015) since 2005 I have not had to verbally wrestle with the administration regarding the behaviors or assigned category(ies) of my child(ren).
Posted by a parent on 11/9/2015I have 2 boys with Down syndrome and I must say I absolutely love the Life Skills program at this school! The teachers and aides are amazing. I was pregnant last school year and they came and got my son from my car and brought him to my car every day. The teachers worked very well with my son and he made huge progress. The teacher did a Differently Abled week after a student made fun of my son. They really care about their kids.
Posted by a parent on 8/10/2014My child is in Shadycrest for the BSI program. It's a joke. The teacher sare not well trained on the laws with Sped Ed and tend treat the children with lack of any compassion. If you have a Sped Ed child I would not recommend this school. If they spent more time observing the children and less time socializing with the PTA moms itnwould be a big improvement .

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter had came from a private school and she was great and on board with her lessons until she came to Southbelt. The teacher does not have an after school learning program like most elementary, they have to many students in the classroom. The teacher does not have enough time to take time out to assist my child. When they said my child needed summer school she went and they still end up holding her back a grade. Had to take her out and place her in a charter school to be place in the right grade. The charter school agreed and was glad that I have did the right thing by taking her out of Southbelt. I really don’t like to pull the race card but I really felt like my child was not getting the proper education their the assistant principal didn’t make it any better. I have notice it was at least 3% of black and Hispanic held back a grade at the time of my daughter.Parent Review4y ago - Rustic Oak Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIf I would've known my son what I know now. I would've not enrolled my son at this school. He did not learn one thing and this is me not exaggerating. We withdrew him and placed him in public school and not only is he thriving and learning but he actually WANTS to go to school!! Save your money or go somewhere else!Other Review10mo ago - Montessori School Of Downtown
