Read what parents are saying about Leander High SchoolPenrod is a bully. 1.9 star rated school huh? Great job Penrod
Posted by a parent on 5/26/2023Going to this school has been the most unsatisfactory experience in my life. Like others have said, it's full of cockroaches, vape addicts, and drug abusers. The facilities are subpar; there are missing stall doors in the restrooms and half the soap dispensers don't work, apparently the janitors are too lazy or understaffed to do anything about it. Most teachers don't explain the subject material properly, or they just play educational YouTube videos because they can't be bothered to get out of their swivel chair and do anything. Substitutes are treated like baby sitters and allow students to behave like wild animals while they look at their phones. Don't even get me started on the poor performance of our sports teams.
Posted by a student on 5/16/2023As a student currently in this high school, I can speak on behalf of around 95% of students here when I say it is a very unpleasant place. There are immense amounts of violence, drug usage (hard drugs as well), horrible bullying, what I can only describe as "gang" violence. For the most part we have very kind and loving teachers and our principle is one of the most amazing leaders I've ever met. However that does not make up for the poor safety conditions and extremely confusing and horrendous curriculums. We are lacking important teachers such as language teachers. In one instance we have a French teacher in our ASL (American sign language) teacher. I've seen more than 20+ students drop this class before the first 6 weeks is even over. I am overly cautious of stepping on cockroaches that seem as if they mutated, I mean these roaches are huge.- I get bruises every single day in school because of the horrible schedule and release timing. If I could add photos I would love to show the yellow and black, green and blue, purple and black bruises all on my arms and upper chest. I am 5'1 which puts me in a dangerous spot. It's a game of human dodgeball and if you're unlucky then it's human bumper cars. You learn to accept getting body slammed by people 2x your height and weight in the hall if it means getting to class on time. The most unpleasant part is getting INTO the school if you're so much as 30 seconds late. There are videos of masses of students, 40+ students, stuck outside in the heat battling to get inside to get a late pass with accurate timing. Got to school at 8:17 (two minutes late) and finally got into the school at 8:25 after being outside the entire time in almost 90°F weather. My final thoughts on all of this are, this is an unsafe place (physically), unhealthy place (mentally), and academically behind place of learning.I used advanced spell check for this entire thing. However spell check just broke so that's very unfortunate. I'm almost two grades behind in some of my strongest classes because of the learning system. However, 1/5 stars, I highly do not recommend.

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageLeander ISD is the worst - funny how they say they are a destination district. The district definitely changed after Troxell left, learning went from fun and educational to liberal lefist emotional indoctrination. No spelling is taught after 2nd grade, grades that were to start in 3rd grade went away, and the dress code is non-existent. What a horrible experience, our nation has doomed our next generation by plaguing this epidemic with no sytle of teaching the basics anymore.Parent Review8mo ago - Block House Creek Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis is my son’s second year at Blockhouse Elementary, he loves it and so do I. He never went to daycare or school before this so he was new to the whole dynamic of school. Both years in a row the staff and teachers have been nice and patient. It took my son a couple weeks or so both years to get in the groove of things. I honestly owe it to the teachers for being so patient and understanding that it may take some kids a little time to adapt. I am so proud to call Blockhouse Elementary our school! Our neighborhood has a great community of parents that keep in touch and keep each other in the loop. I feel like overall we scored when we moved in this neighborhood 4 years ago.Parent Review3mo ago - C. C. Mason Elementary School (Col. Charles Clayborn)

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBoth our kids are attending CCMason for past 2 years. We were apprehensive of the school in the beginning given the ratings but our fears quickly vanished. The teachers are absolutely wonderful and genuinely care about the kids. Highly recommend this school for anyone looking for nourishing environment that fosters growth mindset.Parent Review2mo ago - Lois F Giddens Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI’ve been in more than a few schools, both as an instructor as well as a parent, and I can readily say I wish all the school leaders were like the director at CPM. She speaks with genuine fondness for the families that have been part of her school, is both warm as well as direct.Montessori Guides are trained to observe, observe, and then observe some more the school director is a skilled observer and then some, and expects the guides to be as well. The elementary guide at CPM is an attentive listener and actively observes all around her. She has a relaxed, calm way of being. She cares about the whole child in addition to the standard academics. Her room is ordered with appropriate periods of engaged chatter which I loved to see because if a school is too quiet, too ordered, too perfect I get worried. Likewise, if my child came every day but never had ANY stories of frustrating people or projects, it would indicate little growth was occurring.Simply stepping on campus makes it obvious that CPM is certified rather than simply using the name.(“Montessori” is not trademarked, and anyone can use the name whether they are trained and certified or not.) I saw students comfortable enough to roam the room and find materials, eagerly engage with other peers as well as adults as they practiced their grace and courtesy skills. Children are guided to be in charge of their own learning and allowed to make mistakes along the way. Parents are viewed as partners and are kept up to date with updates via an app. New students are also automatically enrolled in more frequent meetings during the initial transition, something I think that conveys that the school values parental participation rather than shies away from it.Parent Review2mo ago
