Today was a blessing, enjoying Grandparents Day with my grandson. However, HISD was unbelievably disappointing. I graduated from an HISD school in 1993, and back then the support system was remarkable, parents were highly involved academically as well as in extracurricular activities.What I witnessed today at Durham Elementary was nothing like that. Grandparents were not reassured, nor respectfully acknowledged, and being left to sit outside in the heat for lunch was truly disheartening , especially considering that some grandparents are older and should have been accommodated with more care. They definitely need a better Principal as a replacement asap! A principal who’s willing to communicate with parents.Despite it all, I’m praying for the teachers in HISD to have a stress-free school year and to reach their goals at the highest level, no matter the circumstances.

The school no longer supports Montessori methods as of January 2026. Students do HISD worksheets while sitting on the floor during so called Montessori time. Do not recommend as a magnet school anymore. It was good while it lasted.

How can you provide a safe learning environment, when "educators" can't help but push their political agenda. Absolute absolute dumpster fire of policies. They will fail your child at every level.

i was recently a student here and its not the best but i had an ok time. some teachers are pretty nice but the bathrooms are horrible. the playgrounds are nice though and they have dedicated sport areas

The experiences vary widely and there is favoritism. Children of current or recent staff and parents who volunteer heavily do not receive the same consequences for their negative behaviors. This affects morale and nothing is done about it. In terms of teaching, some teachers are very good and some are chronically absent or absentminded. There should be more consistency. Perhaps focus more on improving these issues and less on community events.

SAS is a great choice for private school.
