5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageToday was a blessing, enjoying Grandparents Day with my grandson. However, HISD was unbelievably disappointing. I graduated from an HISD school in 1993, and back then the support system was remarkable, parents were highly involved academically as well as in extracurricular activities.What I witnessed today at Durham Elementary was nothing like that. Grandparents were not reassured, nor respectfully acknowledged, and being left to sit outside in the heat for lunch was truly disheartening , especially considering that some grandparents are older and should have been accommodated with more care. They definitely need a better Principal as a replacement asap! 9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI don't like Helms elementary school, my child went there for one school year. All they do is speak Spanish. It's supposed to be dual language. They mostly speak Spanish, my child is black, she never wanted to go to school. She said the kids didn't play with her. What really upset me was, they never did any Black History programs, but they did everything the Hispanic people celebrated. I have nothing against Hispanic people or their heritage. They just need to include other races heritage too. Please speak English and Spanish, this is America and English I out language. It's okay to do both equally.
