Very satisfied with this school. The teachers are great, my child has is learning a lot and having fun as well, communication is good.. would recommend sending your child here.

My kids love Berry! I like the new principal. Berry has a lot of programs for families, they help the community a lot. I don't know about the other reviews but my kids get PE and music, library, computers and science.

This school is horrible. I was forced to withdraw my kids from this school because the principal and his staff offered no other solution to my problem. I was truly scared to send my children here. I was assaulted on school grounds. I was trying to let my kids finish out the school year. I knew my kid's would not be returning to this school. Most of the teacher's are wonderful some need to go back to school and learn how to handle kids with disabilities. The Assistant Principal and the Principal are very fake and want you to believe they care about the well being of the kids but they really don't. They play mind games with you. The A.P. asked me what do I want them to do. I told him he should be offering me a solution not asking me for one. I cried for days after my kids were basically kicked out. I cried because I feel like myself and my kid's paid the price for an ignorant Teacher. She got away with treating my child (with a disability) like trash.

If I could give this school negative stars it would receive a -1. My son has been at Burrus since 1st grade and he is now in the fourth. Every single teacher he has had has not been proficient. This year alone he's had 3 different teachers before half of the year was up! Progress isn't reported in a timely fashion, administration does not respond to either email or phone calls unless you continuously harass them, the magnet program is a joke, and they are still living off of scores and achievements of years past. Just the other day my son came home with a gash and several cuts from being pushed into a window by another student and neither of his parents were notified. We had to find out upon him returning home bloody. Nothing is being done about consistent bullying to him. I can go on and on. This school is beyond horrible and we are removing our child this year. We just hope that the damage they've done can be reversed quickly. I sincerely hope that the district comes in and make serious personnel changes.

Kennedy Elementary is fantastic! We love this school! The principal at the school does a great job and supports the teachers. Parent involvement is so important, and there is so much parent involvement in this school.

So here's how we ended up at Roosevelt, a school we'd never heard of: Went through HISD's complicated magnet process and picked only 3 Vanguard schools (not knowing that my son would easily qualify Vanguard). Obviously, we got none of our schools. On the second round, we found Roosevelt (why was it so hidden during the first round)?, visited the three-year-old campus building—toured its brand new facilities, modern computer labs, excellent, well-stocked and amenity-filled library—and, finally, talked to Kindergarten Vanguard teacher Ms. Trayers. A year later, I can only say, we can't have made a better choice. Ms. Trayers is an encouraging teacher who challenges her students. My son has emerged from Kindergarten reading at an advanced level, doing mental math, and able to discuss civil rights, debate philosophy, and write a haiku. He knows what onomatopoeia is, he's deeply interested in the scientific process, and he's a coder. Yes, coding for Kindergartners is an option for Roosevelt, and Ms. Trayers comes in early for interested students (and stays late for a book club). Every teacher I've met at Roosevelt has been deeply dedicated to their students. The school is respectful to their kids and encourages parent participation. Don't go by demographic dramatization at sites like this—Roosevelt is proof of that. Diversity is an incredible thing. The area around the school needs improvement—Stokes needs vegetation management and a clean up around Airline, but remember, this is a neighborhood that's on the periphery of 6-10 and may look different in another five years. Look at the school, the teachers, the calibre of education. It's pretty stellar!
