Read what parents are saying about Briargrove Elementary SchoolGreat neighborhood school, very involved PTO (parent teacher organization) with lots of programming for kids and parents. The current principal, Mrs. Jones, has done a fantastic job of bringing in new programs - basketball team, cheer team, and hired a great music teacher, Mrs. Tillman, who put on at least 5 different shows, including a holiday show, with the kids for parents. Mrs. Tillman also chairs the school choir. Teachers like Mrs. Orzabal, Mrs. Russo, Mr. Galle, Mr. Yolland, and Mrs. Molina who have been at this school for over a decade, and many others, are what makes this school great for our kids.
Posted by a parent on 2/13/2024My son recently finished his first year at BGE. We have had a positive experience thus far. I am impressed with the level of communication from the administration to the parents. The administration trusts and empowers its teachers to run their classrooms as they deem appropriate given the dynamics of the classroom, and stands up for its teachers. My son's teacher was truly amazing. She was consistently willing and available to discuss my son's progress and any concerns that I had throughout the year. I think the school's PTO is a true benefit to the betterment of the school community.
Posted by a parent on 7/26/2022RUN teachers and parents! The school is a joke. This environment lacks leaders that think for themselves. They stick together on poor decisions and are so nonchalant when their beliefs do not align for your needs. You can find a much better environment for your special needs child too. They have no idea what they’re doing. Ms. Stewart puts on a good show for families but runs around confused and clueless.
Posted by a parent on 6/27/2022Poor management with more and more school bullying, current principal and vice principal tried to be acted as nothing happened during the teacher’s non responsible behavior during the school year. as the parents we didn’t get straight answer from the school, remember! The arm can't twist the thigh!

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageTh Rogers has been a fabulous school for my kids. We have seen them grow up here and develop skills, intellect and confidence. It may not be suited to every child. For kids who are motivated and bright this is a great school.Parent Review2mo ago - School at St. George Place

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe school is very white. All the benefits go to the students with family connections here. They do not treat students equally. They punish the students without family background much more seriously than the students with family connections here. The management of the school is not honest and they lied to you if you ask for some explanations.Other Review5mo ago - Montessori - Day Care School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe love this school. My kids have been a part of the MLS family for over 10 years. Not only do the kids excel academically, but they love their schoolmates in all grades like family. This is something that is unique to the MLS culture that you won't find elsewhere. The classical curriculum is top notch and we know that they will do well with whatever they choose to do in the future. We feel blessed to have been part of this school for so long.Parent Review1y ago - Second Baptist School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis is a great school for teachers who have their kids there. They are treated better than families who pay / donate. All the posts in social media are mostly from kids from teachers and staff. This is how they retain their teachers by having their families there. The student body is probably half of the staff that works there. Its great for them. But not as much for families who pay / donate. They feel entitled. There is nothing in place for learning differences. If your kid has a learning difference do not apply. And do not be deceived. It is a business, at the end they want the application but they will not take them in. Academics are great, they do prepare the kids. But again, only accept the smart kids or kids from teachers. It is also an open campus. There are a lot of shootings nowadays in Houston. It does make me scared. Carpool is a joke, you drop off your kid in the opposite side of the campus and they have to walk to their class. In an open campus again with construction workers. We are heartbroken and put in a bad situation by admissions. One of my kids was not accepted. They didn't care for our family. And I know people who got their family all in just because they are teachers / staff there. It is not ok to split a family. They do not live by their "Christian" belief. It is not Christian to reject a sibling. The admissions team is the worst here, really deceiving. Beware. "Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God." N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur experience with SMCS has left us deeply disillusioned by its lack of guidance and willingness to support our youngest child during times of difficulty. Despite our pleas for assistance and patience, the school's rigid policies only served to exacerbate the challenges our child faced during a particularly tumultuous period. In late November of 2022, our four-year-old, amidst coping with numerous significant life changes, including a new school/teachers/friends, a new baby sister, and a new home, began exhibiting signs of emotional distress. We met in person a total of three times. The school had nothing to offer by way of recommendations/strategies/resources. Completely on our own, my husband and I sought outside help. However, the administration adamantly refused to allow any external support, insisting that their methods were sufficient. As the situation continued to deteriorate, the school's response became increasingly alarming. Their final plan of action was shockingly heartless: to dismiss my four-year-old child from the school. This decision was delivered on Valentine's Day, adding insult to injury. The principal handed us a check and wished us well. What makes this ordeal even more distressing is that my older daughter had been attending SMCS for two years, and our family had been part of the community. Despite our longstanding relationship with the school, they showed no hesitation in casting aside a vulnerable four-year-old child who needed support the most.As a parent who had placed my trust in the school, I was appalled by their lack of empathy and their failure to provide an emotionally supportive environment for all children. Effective leadership sets the tone for a school's culture, and unfortunately, the leadership at St. Michael’s failed to inspire confidence or create a sense of trust. Their impersonal approach left us feeling disconnected, isolated, and unsupported during a very challenging period in our child’s life.Parent Review1mo ago
