We have been blown away by our experience at Ben Milam, with the principal and staff, and the services provided to our special needs kiddo. We absolutely love how small the school is and that all the teachers call the children by name, not just the children in their classroom. The principal is UNBELIEVABLY gifted and a pleasure to work with!!! In the 3 years we have been on campus, I have never once seen her flustered or unkind to anyone. She is patient, wise, generous with her time, and exceptionally gifted in working with children as well as managing an incredible team of teachers. We moved across town and still drive to this school (even though it is much further away) because of the principal, size of the school, and the heart of the teachers. I just wish there was a way to sing their praises more.

This school is terrible. The staff and its new, unnecessary vice principal are completely unprofessional.

We recently left Ben Milam elementary. This was our first year in public school. From day one there was one problem after another. Mostly issues with the staff members. Lack of leadership. This was by far the worst experience. We moved to uptown thinking that William B. Travis would be our home school.

My school is excellent! My daughter will be a new student at Ben Miliam for this starting 2013 school year. I made it my #1 goal to get her in this particular school, after seeing personally the great noted improvement in a couple of my friends kids when switched to Ben Miliam Elementary School.

As a former teacher at Ben Milam, I disagree with the previous parent's review. This school does have very dedicated teachers, but to state that the current principal has "not lifted a finger to provide anything extra" is absolutely not true. One should be careful when making assumptions about why teachers make the decision to leave a school. I think much of the teacher's frustration is most likely due to the poor management and corruption of the district as a whole. A principal only has so much control over these issues. Also, I'm not sure that staying at school until 7:00 and working Saturdays is healthy and/or beneficial for teachers, students or principals!
