Gunn Junior High School

This school means so much to my heart. My son had a few problems last year and they were the kindest, most supportive team. The teachers, principal, assistant principal, counselor, even the front desk staff…every last one of them were there for my son and our family. I’m forever grateful. Educational, my kids have grown and they’ve had excellent teachers thus far. Many parents are involved in the PTA, my children feel safe, and parents are consistently informed of what is happening, educationally and socially.

The school has had an F rating for so long. I don't understand why the state doesn't step in. Why do all the teachers quit mid year? Why is there a revolving door of staff at a great building with engaged parents. Why do they teachers not want to stay? It's not the kids, for sure.

Aside from a younger grades teacher constantly yelling at her class to shut up, it’s a really good good school. I love the officer that’s on duty all day and the front office lady with the grey hair is very polite and helpful. Parents aren’t too involved and this place has a new set of teachers every year which is weird.

This is our second year at TMA, and we will be continuing with elementary at TMA. My child loves the outdoor time, learning about the animals, going on hikes, planting gardens, splashing in puddles, and climbing trees. I love the immense progress she has made in reading during her kindergarten year. I was surprised when she came halfway through her pre-k year, reading three-letter words. She had just improved from there. She is doing 4 digit addition and math that I can't even understand. The teachers are so kind and caring. Volunteer hours are required for parents, and it makes the school feel like a community. There are several events throughout the year where the school come together. We feel so lucky to have found TMA and can't wait to see how our daughter thrives here.
