The teachers and whole staff are loving and care so much for kids. They knew my two kids names from day one in the car drop off (Coach Richardson is amazing!). When my daughter was having anxiety about attending school, so many teachers and the school counselor stepped in and worked with her. We have never experienced so much love and support from a public school. SCA feels like a private school with more diversity of students, and that’s a great thing. From the school lunches and snacks, to the wonderful enrichment teachers that plan school events like science nights, concerts and trunk or treats, this school is truly a blessing for our family.
Posted by a parent on 12/24/2023I love this school, and the work that they're doing, but what I dislike is the lack of training when dealing with bullies. I have seen a child being bullied by another child while the teacher stood there and watched, not knowing what to do. The majority of the students are there to learn and grow, but there are some that are disruptive, disrespectful, and need to be removed. Other than that it's a great school.
Posted by a parent on 1/15/2015I work for the non-profit organization that sponsors Smithson Craighead Academy Elementary School, and I can testify to the dedicated, hard-working, caring, and effective teaching staff. The principal, Janelle Glover, is outstanding. The priorities are a safe environment for the children, close attention to the children's emotional health and behavior, and academic achievement. They teach three "hidden rules" of success in this society: self-control, respect others, and work before you play. I've not known a child yet that didn't love the school. It feels good to be associated with an enterprise like Smithson Craighead.

Other schools in the district are great. This school is unorganized, not helpful, and generally not competent. We’re new to Nashville and the love and support from Dan Mills have both made the journey easy for our twins. After attending the summer’s Promise program at Dan Mills, our twins entered their first year of school at Dan Mills. The staff were all welcoming from the start. They were/are intentional about meeting the parents and work with each student based on their names. For example, our twin girl was recommended to participate in the social skills program, whereas our twin boy was recommended to the Dragon Scholar program. Both enjoy their respective program and continue to thrive in their new roles as students. Highly recommended. If you’re a parent who enjoys walking to and from school, this is the place from you. 5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWhen we enrolled our son for Kindergarten we lived close by. Shortly after we moved right outside downtown Nashville. We initially decided to send him to the new school for 1st grade but we were so happy with this school and our son's experience with his teacher that we chose to make the sacrifices needed to continue his education through to the end, which is 5th grade.
