Read what parents are saying about Hackett Horatio B SchoolI am a substitute teacher and have been to many schools in this district. This school is a free for all. At any given moment there are special needs students running the halls because there is no support for them. There is no security and a child could and has left the building without an adult being aware. The principal "encourages" the staff with negative comments leading to very low morale. I would send my kid to any other school and look into this one if my child was attending.
Posted by a teacher on 12/14/2023Both of my children have attended this school. My daughter made it into one of the top middle schools in the state. I would say that says a lot about the school. My son is still there and doing great. Chances are he will make it into a great middle school, too!

Posted by a student on 6/28/2018This school is the best kept secret in Philadelphia. My daughter transferred here from a private school in the suburbs and just absolutely loves it. The teachers are wonderful and the principal is a leader and the community is supportive. It's exactly what a public school should be. We love it here.
Posted by a parent on 6/24/2018Transferred my child from the neighborhood catholic school because he wasn't getting the support he needed. The staff is so caring and do whatever they can to educate every child.

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs co-founder of the Friends of H.A. Brown I came in knowing how wonderful the school was due to my experience as a student teacher in the Fall of 2011. Many of the teachers and staff have been working at the school since then and some even longer. The low turn over creates a welcoming, comfortable and home-like feel as the students know the teachers from kindergarten through middle school. Principal Carnivale has implemented many important changes that have increased attendance, student attention, and an engaged student community. All students have computer classes, visual art, physical education and music with the opportunity to take string and woodwind instrument lessons. The Friends of Brown and the Home and School Association have been working collaboratively towards fund raising goals and student incentives and events. Volunteers have kept the library open for three years now providing many of the students the opportunity to borrow books, and this year we have added story reading to classes during their library time. The school represents a rich diverse ethnic body between students, teachers and staff. There are many Spanish speakers as well as a range of varying Chinese dialects and Vietnamese being spoken within the building. It certainly takes a village to make this school the diamond in our neighborhood and it is worth it! I am more than excited to be able to enroll my son when he is of age.Other Review6y ago - Hunter William H School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis is truly a dream school! They are teaching my son more than I could have imagined. His spiritual, academic, and physical education are all important and they give him a better education than I could have ever hoping for in a public or charter school. They treat a child like family and show them love and respect with everything they do. I'm so grateful to have a safe and loving place for my son to learn and grow.Parent Review5y ago - St Laurentius School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI went to this school when I was in 5th and 6th grade (I’m currently 19). This was the worst school I have ever been to. Not only did I get bullied constantly by students I was bullied by teachers. This isn’t your average bullying it was straight racism. This school only respects you if you’re white. Don’t bother going here if you want your child to have a good environment to learn in.Other Review2mo ago - Holy Name of Jesus

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a graduate, I can truly say that my experience at Visitation is irreplaceable. Although the location is not the safest, I feel as though the principal and teachers do their best to ensure that the children's welfare in their first priority. The bond between the students and the faculty made me feel as though I was part of one large family. Teachers know the students' needs and always assist them accordingly. Overall, Visitation has an excellent curriculum and have become a safe haven for all children.Other Review9y ago
