We have a 1st grader at GW Childs and are having a wonderful experience. The school boasts supportive teachers and dedicated staff members who care deeply about our children and the community. It has been a pleasure to get to know our daughter’s teachers, including those with school age children attending GW Childs (namely the music teacher and art teacher-who we love). The parent association while small, is growing. These folks represents a vibrant parent community who want to increase involvement and foster communication. Both my spouse and I were raised outside of the city in NJ & PA suburbs. We did not know what to expect when we entered the Philadelphia School District last year. GW Childs has exceeded our expectations. Our daughter enjoys going to school and is learning so much. She has great friends with parents we love. She is an exceptional reader. While no school is without challenges, we are proud to have put down roots in the Point Breeze neighborhood. We look forward to seeing the school and community grow. Additionally we look forward to enrolling our second child in Kindergarten at GW Childs in the Fall of 2025. As a former graduate student of St Thomas Aquinas from years 25-26, This school honestly has a lot of problems, especially when it comes to being professional and teaching math. A lot of the time, things feel really unorganized. Teachers and staff (to be specific, Joanne Gledhill) don’t always explain things clearly, and the rules can change depending on the situation, which gets confusing. It makes it hard to know what’s expected and doesn’t feel very fair.One positive thing about the school is the English teacher (Danielle Godfrey) She explain things clearly, make lessons interesting, and actually take the time to help students understand the material. It feels like she care about how well students are doing and want everyone to succeed, which makes a big difference compared to other classes.Overall, the school doesn’t feel as professional as it should, and the math education really needs improvement. School is supposed to help students learn and succeed, but right now it feels like we’re not getting the support we need.

I have watched our grandchildren thrive at the pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st-grade levels at The Philadelphia School. The teachers and staff that I have met are dedicated, professional, and very positive. I am a product of a parochial school education. I thought that my elementary education was very good. However, experiencing The Philadelphia School has given me a new understanding of academic excellence. And it is not just the academic environment - the entire school is affirming and enthusiastic. It's pervasive. The Head-of-School is also excellent.
