5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have a 1st grader at GW Childs and are having a wonderful experience. The school boasts supportive teachers and dedicated staff members who care deeply about our children and the community. It has been a pleasure to get to know our daughter’s teachers, including those with school age children attending GW Childs (namely the music teacher and art teacher-who we love). The parent association while small, is growing. These folks represents a vibrant parent community who want to increase involvement and foster communication. Both my spouse and I were raised outside of the city in NJ & PA suburbs. We did not know what to expect when we entered the Philadelphia School District last year. GW Childs has exceeded our expectations. Our daughter enjoys going to school and is learning so much. She has great friends with parents we love. She is an exceptional reader. While no school is without challenges, we are proud to have put down roots in the Point Breeze neighborhood. We look forward to seeing the school and community grow. Additionally we look forward to enrolling our second child in Kindergarten at GW Childs in the Fall of 2025. If you have questions about this school, I’d encourage you to please reach out to the school or the parent association and see for yourself, what a gem it is.Parent Review1y ago2 Reviews - Edwin M Stanton School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageStanton has incredible teachers, staff, and a super supportive and genuinely kind parent community that has been successful in raising money to support additional programming and to support the the teachers and staff. Stanton has great partnerships in the community including with Settlement House, which supports the orchestra and the incredible orchestra teacher at Stanton. Every teacher my daughter has had so far has been excellent-super competent, kind and innovative in circumstances that can be challenging sometimes. She has learned so much and loves being there.Parent Review1y ago11 Reviews - Fanny Jackson Coppin School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageKirkbride is a wonderful neighborhood school and if your family lives in catchment is a great opportunity! The teachers, principal and staff are all full of energy and genuinely care about the students. Walking through the halls, there are lots of murals, artwork and classroom displays. There is a well-stocked school library and an active HSA. In our experience, teachers have been very good about communicating with families through ClassDojo, report card conferences and APTT meetings. Based on the work that comes home, there are lots of opportunities for learning differentiation in the classroom and students are being taught solid skills in creative ways.Parent Review4y ago5 Reviews - Nebinger George W School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy children have gone here for 5 years. They have had a great experience. There is a great sense of community and many events for the students and families to be involved in. The teachers communicate openly and honestly and were very helpful when I had concerns. Many of the teachers do extra curricular activities for the students after school. I would definitely recommend this neighborhood schoolParent Review1y ago11 Reviews - Southwark School

NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe teachers are not state certified. The students are being taught at a much lower level than most public schools. If you are a student of color, you can expect your scores to be lowered so that the scholarships go to the Italian kids. I was told that my son scored on 7th grade reading level on Tera Nova, when he has always scored above 12th grade. One month after leaving Saint Anthony's my son scored a 12.9 grade level in reading and was placed in a advanced placement Algebra program. There was nothing that the reading and writing teacher could teach my son because he was more advanced than her. I was denied my request to view my son's graded assignments and even denied his records when we left. And NO! I didn't owe any money and was not there on a scholarship. Nepotism plays a part in the hiring process at this school when it should be based on qualifications.Parent Review1y ago8 Reviews
