My children had an excellent well-rounded education, which not only included a strong support in academia, but also a strong support in athletics and the arts as well.

apparently according to students they really are opposed to conflicting views and will not allow them to exist on campus...bravo for promoting a facist institute of learning in pennsylvania

This school only allows certain world outlooks to flourish, and not others. They are discriminatory, while claiming to be ALL inclusive...

My daughter is currently a 10th grader at Parkland High School. I couldn't be happier. The amount of opportunity in this school, in terms of academics and extracurricular activities, is unmatched in this region. One warning there are big differences between academic levels given that Parkland has a traditional tracking system. If your child gets tracked at a lower level early on then it is hard to switch to a higher level later on. At the same time it does not have the capacity to push every child who lacks motivation when they are small. I had to push my daughter myself when she was little and I found myself up against a school philosophy that was against pushing. When I told my child that she needed to take the higher level courses in middle school she would say "why, my teachers are saying I can take the regular classes and that is fine." This was frustrating. Thankfully I did push her and now she is entirely self motivated, takes the highest level courses, earns As and is very proud and happy. But if I hadn't done interventions along the way and pushed her early on she definitely would have been tracked at a lower level and her opportunities for college would have been different. In terms of the size of Parkland I was initially apprehensive but the benefit my daughter sees in this is the semi-degree of anonymity one feels on a daily basis along with the ability to have one's own group of friends and not be judged by a dominant "popular" crowd. There are too many kids in this school for there to be a particular popular clique that everyone gets compared to. It is a big school environment with many small schools within it. Interaction with teachers, coaches, counselors, advisors is wonderful, they are all responsive to both her and me. Parkland uses the Columbia Teachers College curriculum. Additionally, I am happy that my daughter goes to a good public school that is more social/racially/ethnically diverse than the overwhelming majority of suburban public schools in the Northeast. My daughter is not all-white herself and I did a lot of research (prior to her joining the district in first grade) to identify a high performing school district where she would not be the only non-white kid. Today she has a diverse set of friends and interacts daily with kids from different religious, national, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Parkland Senior high school is a group of about 100 well accomplished students surrounded by thousands of other students. Out of the accomplished students, Parkland this year is sending VEX team to World level, is sending 32 to PJAS states, and has sent at least 10 this year to a state music ensemble. Not to mention State Volleyball team. However, many of these students get smart on their own, without the aid of teachers. This is a perfect school if you are ready for less-guided studying. If you need the help of a teacher a lot, look elsewhere.
