Read what parents are saying about Vernon Elementary SchoolVernon is an amazing community. We love that it’s an IB school, and have been impressed by the ways in which each unit is incorporated in all they do. I’ve never been one to go by ratings alone, so before coming to Vernon we asked friends and neighbors about their experiences. We went to information meetings and social events before kindergarten, and were so impressed. We have never looked back, and feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to be a part of this school community. There are always ways in which we can do better. I appreciate the school’s desire to grow and change, to better serve all students. I appreciate the efforts to make decisions with equity at the forefront. Our children will be better human beings thanks to these formative years at Vernon. So very thankful.
Posted by a parent on 4/11/2021My son is a student at Vernon and I have an incoming kindergartener this year. Vernon has been fantastic for our family. Our teachers are dedicated, loving, approachable and effective. My oldest is thriving and I see his growth, emotionally and academically, each year. We are very proud to be a part of this community.
Posted by a parent on 4/10/2021I’ve been a student at Vernon for over 7 years and my experience with Vernon is wonderful. I would strongly recommend Vernon to prospective students especially if you care about diversity.
Posted by a student on 11/9/2018As a parent of 2 kids who've been Vernon students since kindergarten and are now 6th and 3rd grades, I feel so fortunate that Vernon is our neighborhood school. The teachers and admin are fantastic and devoted to their students. And we have a super-involved, supportive PTA and parent community. My kids love getting to have garden classes and lots of field trips through the year. I could go on and on, suffice to say I am thrilled with Vernon where my kids are thriving, and would encourage any new parent in the neighborhood to come visit our school and check it out for yourself. Go Owls!
Posted by a parent on 9/1/2017Our son just completed his 4th year at Vernon and we have been so happy to be a part of this wonderful community. Between the skilled and committed teachers, the incredibly involved parents and the amazing new administration, I have watched this school transform and grow into an amazing environment. Our school offers Mandarin, Spanish, Art, Music, choir, band, PE, a garden education program and the list goes on and on.

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI moved from WA and was looking for Mandarin language immersion for my child. PPS only has 3 elementary schools with the MIP and the other 2 schools were completely full. In comparison, MLK invited us to visit, see the classes, and speak to the teachers. I witnessed a diverse and vibrant community with passionate instructors. What I observed at my visit has held true through the past semester my child has been enrolled. I was worried about my child starting a new language as a 1st grader with no prior experience but Gao laoshi has done an amazing job getting her up to speed. She’s made wonderful friends and enjoys going to school. She has also made steady academic progress, particularly noticeable in reading (which she did not enjoy before). Her class is a 1:14 ratio although that might change next year (they try really hard to keep the lower grades small when students are just acclimating to school and learning fundamentals). There is also an active PTA and good community ties. MLK may not be for everyone. However, it’s been a great fit for our family, which was looking for a diverse and caring community where character is emphasized.Parent Review1y ago - Sabin Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe are very grateful to be a part of the Woodlawn school community. The love and care from our Principal trickles down to the staff, teachers, and ultimately the kids. The diversity and inclusion of teachers and kids is wonderful to be a part of. The administration and teachers are very communicative with parents- we feel up to date at all times. Our child is learning at the rate we want her to be. Most importantly, she feels safe and happy in the school environment. 10/10 recommend.Parent Review1mo ago - Montessori of Alameda

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have taught Art at Holy Redeemer since August of 2005, additionally, I put two boys through the school. One of my sons is now an Electrical Engineer at a local high-profile high-tech company. This school provided both my children with an excellent academic foundation. My younger son died suddenly and unexpectedly when he was a senior in high school. The level of loving care my family received and continues to receive from this community was and is beyond my imagination. Holy Redeemer provides excellent academics, art, music, and physical education, but the compassion and empathy exemplified by the administration, staff, and indeed families are beyond comparison.Teacher Review1y ago
