I absolutely love this school. They see Black people and people of all colors as human beings and that’s what matters to me. The learning will come, but it is how you treat people. This school understands what it means to be a good human being and exercises that with how they handle our children and each other and their parents.

We've had a wonderful experience at Sabin School over the past 5 years. Both of our kids have become enthusiastic learners and I credit their welcoming school community, kind and hard-working teachers and the thoughtful administration. Most importantly, our dyslexic child got exactly the supports she needed to become a reader with science based reading instruction and help from Reading Results. Sabin School is also a lot of fun, with many informal opportunities for our kids to spend time with their friends at school and around the neighborhood. The Sun School afterschool program gives Sabin students the opportunity to try activities like guitar and chess. We could have chosen a private school and I'm so glad that we did not go that direction for primary school. Go Sabin Stars!

I have two children at Childpeace and my spouse attended Childpeace decades ago when they were in another location. In my opinion this is the best Montessori school in Portland - from the amazing campus and building to the teachers, support staff and fellow parents we've always felt welcome and our children got the best education possible. The curriculum is fantastic - my kids read several grades ahead, they learned math before kindergarten and they love going to school every day.

My two children have been at Shining Star for over six years, and during that time we’ve found beloved teachers who are deeply committed to modeling wisdom, care, and a love of learning. While I initially had reservations about choosing a private Waldorf education rather than a public school model, I’ve become profoundly grateful for this community and for the many gifts my children receive here—joy, meaningful education, connection, friendship, curiosity, mindfulness, emotional regulation, and an approach to learning that truly leads with the heart.The children also take classes in music (both are currently learning cello and viola), folk dance, Japanese language, and handwork such as sewing and knitting. Beyond academics, I’ve found a soulful group of families who deeply care about one another and about supporting the wider community. We move through the seasons together, value art and artistic collaboration, and celebrate life in meaningful ways.I’ve found not only a wonderful parenting community, but have also come to adore my children’s friends. I see these children as a true pack—forming deep, lifelong friendships—and I look forward to witnessing all the magic and creativity they will bring into the world as they help shape a more liberated and compassionate future for everyone.

Holy Redeemer Grade school truly stands out as a place where students are nurtured not just academically, but as whole individuals. What makes the school especially remarkable is its deeply caring community. Teachers, staff, and families work together to create an environment where every child feels seen, supported, and valued. There’s a genuine sense of kindness and compassion that reflects the school’s faith-centered mission in everyday interactions.The school also embraces diversity in a meaningful and enriching way. Children learn early on the importance of respect, empathy, and understanding others—skills that will serve them well throughout their lives.Academically, the school offers strong educational opportunities that challenge and inspire students. Teachers are dedicated and attentive, often going above and beyond to tailor instruction and encourage growth. My child was behind in reading when we entered and they scheduled her with a reading specialist and within 2 months she was meeting grade level. Another highlight is the constant variety of activities available to students. Whether it’s extracurricular clubs, service projects, sports, or school-wide events, there is always something happening to keep students engaged and excited. These activities not only make school enjoyable but also help build confidence, leadership skills, and a strong sense of community.Overall, this Catholic grade school provides a well-rounded, supportive, and vibrant environment where children can thrive academically, socially, and spiritually.

Poor academics. My kids spent two years here doing nothing but waiting for the day to end. They told me they were bored. The school is not inclusive. They actively push out kids who require special education. They point fingers at parents of kids with special needs. They harm kids who need the most help. This should not even be a school. We spent four years trying to undo the trauma they caused to our family. What they did to my child caused life long trauma. Do not send your kid here.
