Read what parents are saying about Harriet Tubman Middle SchoolI have gone through all 3 years of education at Tubman. I would say that it's really not as bad as some say. I think over time the staff has gotten way better and the students have calmed down. Some teachers are better than others but none are "bad." I'm not sure why the reviews are as bad as they are but if you go into Tubman with an open mindset you will be surprised.
Posted by a parent on 8/6/2021If possible I would give a lower score. This school is located at the corner of three highway systems, You could kick a soccer ball and hit I-5, and highway 84 is just to the south and 405 just north! They have spent big bucks on air filters but air quality is still a major concern.Turnover is a major issue within the ranks- teacher and administration. They have had 4 principals in 4 years! A few teachers are great! They are very limited and overwhelmed. Most teachers are punching the clock and do not engage.Test scores? Terrible and kids are falling further behind each year.

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur family has had some ups and downs at this school, but on balance has had a good experience. There were a few grade levels where one of our students struggled with some bullying, and I was disappointed when my child who was being bullied kept being placed in the same class as the aggressor, but I also recognized that there was a lot of work being done with the aggressive child. Both of our children are strong learners, and this doesn't happen in a vacuum, so I credit the teachers and staff with encouraging our learners while also encouraging the social and emotional development.Parent Review2y ago - Martin Luther King Jr. School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI moved from WA and was looking for Mandarin language immersion for my child. PPS only has 3 elementary schools with the MIP and the other 2 schools were completely full. In comparison, MLK invited us to visit, see the classes, and speak to the teachers. I witnessed a diverse and vibrant community with passionate instructors. What I observed at my visit has held true through the past semester my child has been enrolled. I was worried about my child starting a new language as a 1st grader with no prior experience but Gao laoshi has done an amazing job getting her up to speed. She’s made wonderful friends and enjoys going to school. She has also made steady academic progress, particularly noticeable in reading (which she did not enjoy before). Her class is a 1:14 ratio although that might change next year (they try really hard to keep the lower grades small when students are just acclimating to school and learning fundamentals). There is also an active PTA and good community ties. MLK may not be for everyone. However, it’s been a great fit for our family, which was looking for a diverse and caring community where character is emphasized.Parent Review1y ago - Sabin Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have had our child at Childpeace for 3 years and it has been an amazing experience, from children's house to elementary! The teachers/guides are incredibly skilled at teaching and meet each child where they are. My child is not only doing amazing academic things, but is also practicing leadership, working with others, empathy, emotional intelligence, deep learning, and self-direction. They allow the children within a structure the ability to practice self-direction, time management, autonomy, and deep inquiry. There is an amazing peaceful and productive hum that you can observe when the children are in their classes. It is truly Montessori excellence! Highly recommend Childpeace for 18 months to middle school.Parent Review4mo ago - Shining Star Waldorf School
