I have four children and they have all attended Carnegie. I’ve seen many teachers come and go over the years at this school but some core ones have remained and that seems to set a higher bar for new hires compared to most schools. This school attracts good teachers that care about kids. The culture is one of learning and discipline problems and any bullying is addressed swiftly. It really is a peaceful atmosphere for an elementary school and kids who behave are the norm. Kindergarten and first grade teams are phenomenal.

This school is a danger to children’s safety and mental health and should be shut down!

We have been here a year now and it's honestly the best school for my children..My son has went from never wanting to get up in the morning to walking to school!!Great school,highly recommend!

Oh camp director/ assistant principle at Salk is terrible and SO RUDE! We had an issue at Summer Camp and she was supposedly a music teacher before becoming admin. I am so sorry but she is not qualified at all to be an assistant principal. She needs experience in a regular classroom. I know TPS is desperate but still..... I am glad that my child goes to a Magnet school and if summer camp fills up at her site again we WILL NOT be back at this school for summer, we will just do something else. This school is run completely differently than the magnet school my child attends and this sort of admin would NEVER fly there with strong parental support!

Montessori is a wonderful form of education and it is effective in creating an environment that allows children to have internal validation in their works. The teachers will work alongside you to help your child. The teachers are very kind however there are some that could use a bit more training. The problem is the administration, they are ill equipped and under educated to keep up with the demands of running a school. There are promises made but no follow through. There is a lack of communication with parents about important matters but overcommunication with things not as urgent. There is a lack by the administration to truly engage families in community participation and heavily dependent on the families to find that community, two community events in an entire school year. In order to be a great leader it comes from the top and that is highly lacking. There is also not a standard of who is allowed to enroll so what ends up happening is you have students who have a higher level of care and those kids take away from other children. If you are interested in this school I would go in with hard questions and really research the quality.

This school created deep emotional wounds in my daughter. The teachers gossip about students, sometimes to other students. They have serious issues with favoritism, ableism, and bullying on the part of the students and teachers alike. Everything my daughter did was villainized and punished, from having panic attacks in class to so much as not making eye contact. She was more than a few times made an example of what not to be for the whole class, no move she ever made was good enough. She often talked of wishing she was invisible. Her “friends” were allowed to mock her freely, while she was punished for looking at them too “rudely.” This school stripped my child of her love for learning.
