Medina Middle School

Best school my child has ever been to

huy is a bad school and i hate the kids there they would hit me and slap and bully me.

I'm going to be so honest here...This school needs to teach their staff how to be respectful to kids especially the ones that are in 1-3 grade. I've seen many teachers just yell at students for doing normal kid stuff, and they wont let the kids speak for themselves, because if they do they'll get in trouble for speaking back to the teacher. The school nurse has to be the worse, she doesn't do anything for the students, my little girl once had a really bad headache and instead of calling me, she instead started yelling at my girl, saying she was lying, I know my baby, she would never lie about her pain or when she is sick. This school is mostly just kids who wanna be in gangs! I've seen 5th graders vaping! This is no environment for any kid! Every single day there is a new fight! I cant believe it! The teachers do nothing when kids are getting picked on! Also they don't even have a system for kids who are struggling with work or just their mental health. No kid, should feel like they can't trust the adults. IM personally disgusted by this place and it shouldnt be called a school! Teachers favor students. Its just so disgusting. The racism and the homophobia in that so called school! They let students walk all over them, and only punish 0 to none! Kids cant even hug or hold hands with each other because they'll get in trouble. This school sucks like their lunch!! Cant even. 0/10!!!

Our experience with this school was horrendous. I do not believe they are truly equipped to manage/teach children who require an intervention specialist. Maria Allen (Intervention Specialist) and Tiffany Genton (Principal) were not easy to work with. They communicated with me up until I started catching them in lies and calling them out about the lies. My son was bullied, and while I often received phone calls when he was misbehaving, I never received a phone call when my son was hurt or bullied. Both Maria and Tiffany lied about not knowing my son was bullied, Maria did so during a group meeting. When I informed everyone in the meeting she blatantly lied when she said she had no idea about the bullying, she became visibly embarrassed. I reminded her of the incident I brought to her attention when my son was shoved down in the hallway and then subsequently had another kids foot on his chest. During that meeting, I also reminded her that she stated she didn't tell me about that incident because she handled it. That is still never okay. I should have been notified. Neither his father nor myself were notified. I typically heard about when my son was misbehaving but never when he was bullied. The both of them lied on my child, as well. There was an incident where Tiffany stated my son pulled the chair out from under another student. An adult from my family inquired with my son AND the other student about what happened. The other student stated that he feel out of his chair and that my child wasn't near him when it happened. Tiffany told my son's father about an incident on the playground, then told me a completely different story about the same incident. I didn't trust them and I still don't. I never thought I could have the capacity to hate anyone, but alas. If your child requires an intervention specialist, I strongly suggest looking for a different school. That classroom was consistently disorderly, Maria did not have a good handle on it. I kept paper trails of lies, when I mentioned that, written communication with me became free and far between. My son used to cry himself to sleep at night knowing he had to go to school the next day. It broke my heart. He missed a lot of school because of bullying. I am so happy we found a different school. I would NEVER send a child there as long as those two are still in the building. Very unprofessional, rude, condescending liars.

Tl;dr - this school may be right for your family if your child has no issues and the parents/guardians are fine with whatever the school chooses to do. The teachers and staff care for the students and, due to the small class sizes, everyone knows one another. There is a small-community feel. This school will not be a good fit for your family if you value clear, consistent communication with teachers, or if you want to collaborate on your child's learning. It will also not be a good fit if you question policies or practices. The long version: Our child went to CA for one year (kindergarten). When we toured, it was fine, but nothing exceptional. Our child has difficulty with transitions and had relatives who attended. They wanted to all go together so we decided to try it out for a year and see how it went. - Our child loved CA. They easily fell into the rhythm of the classes, learned how to read well, and made friends in class. For that, we are thankful.- As parents, we did not appreciate 30-40 minutes of non-educational TV time in class per day. We brought it up to the Board, and they supported the teacher because it "helps with transitions". Our opinion is that students should be learning how to manage transitions in a healthy, social-emotional way, as noted on their website. We're not paying for TV.- The school-wide communication is good, but individually, we had to badger teachers and staff to respond to emails, which sometimes took over 3 months, multiple follow-ups, and usually a CC to the principal (or, in one case, the Dept. of Education and Workforce).- CA loves parent participation if you're volunteering, not if you're asking questions about policies.- The Board is there to maintain status quo. Some families brought up instances of bullying and asked why it wasn't documented, parents weren't informed, and the bully wasn't disciplined according to the handbook. They needed to "maintain confidentiality". Ultimately, nothing was done.- Given our child's happiness, we considered it for 1st grade until we found out that the teacher left and they hadn't hired a new one. We paused on filing our re-enrollment paperwork - you commit to at least 1 month's tuition if you withdraw before July, and we didn't want to do that until someone had been hired. Any follow-up was ignored until we CC'd the DEW.- We started at our local public school this year. We are thankful to CA for helping us appreciate how exceptionally our current school is run.
