West Elementary School

Absolutely awful. I would recommend you take your child literally ANYWHERE else. They completely failed my son in his first year in school. They refused to listen to any input I had and then stopped communicating with me all together because I refused to sign off on paperwork so they could get the special education funding while trying to diagnose my son as “disabled: other/unknown”. I had and have no doubts my child was difficult but they didn’t even try. They kicked him out of class almost daily. His teacher would send him to the office because he “would itch too much”. Come to find out going over his paperwork with his new school this year that had my son sitting in a desk by himself in the hallways instead of in his class. HE. WAS. FIVE. YEARS. OLD. Neither his father nor myself were EVER made aware of this. His teacher was a joke, she told me she had been doing this forever and she could handle him only for her to say with complete disgust “I have 20 other kids in my class and they don’t act like that!” (and I have it on recording should anyone at this school actually read this and care to follow up). Unless your child is a perfectly behaved white child, they will be labeled as the problem and attempted to be labeled as special needs. I’m absolutely disgusted with this school district.

My daughter has attended this school now for two years. I am someone who has homeschooled my child in the past and hasn’t always been on board with public school. With that said my daughter has had an incredible experience at this school. She has struggled in the past socially and with acclimating. The teachers and staff have been responsive, helpful, and gracious. The staff has been outstanding and I am very impressed with the security and safety precautions. I 100% recommend this school. As someone who has been wary about the public school system, I have nothing negative to say about Winchester. I am grateful they take such great care and are attentive. The testing has been adequate and what I feel is appropriate for my child. I truly am impressed and content with this school.

We changed to this school because of the school we were at didn’t have a great principal or reading program. Our child went from being 2 years behind in reading to above grade level all in one year by switching to this school. The principal is great, sad she is leaving. There is respect and appreciation to the teachers and principal. Our daughter is extremely excited going to school every day.

This school has been absolutely wonderful. The education quality is excellent and the additional resources, clubs, music lessons, field trips, etc have exceeded our expectations. Communications from the staff and teachers is very good. I love the buddy program at this school and see the good it has done for all kids. My family attends a non- denominational church and feel very welcomed regardless of our faith background; the focus here is on the right things and I see interest in the character of the child across members of the staff. They have a genuine interest in the students and families. I believe they deeply care about people here.
