Read what parents are saying about Schenectady High SchoolLike others have said, the school has a negative reputation, not great overall test scores, an overcrowded high school, etc. However, the diversity of students, class offerings, IB program, college courses, performing arts program, extra-curricular activities, after school clubs, etc., make this school a wonderful choice. If your student puts in the effort and work, they will easily succeed. The district has made a lot of changes over the years and continues to fight for funding and opportunities for the students. The teachers work hard to ensure the success of their students, and there is additional help (tutoring, after school assistance, review groups for upcoming exams, virtual help from teachers, etc.) for the students to take advantage of.
Posted by a community member on 3/3/2023Schenectady High School's diversity, arts program, and IB program prepared me greatly for college and to receive a BS from a top 50 school, to then move on to a competitive work environment in New York City
Posted by a community member on 1/24/2019I'm a sophomore this year and I think have learning differences my self, the teachers really want to see you improve. The Bluse Roses Theatre Company is amazing and great for kids lookingto go into Acting in college. I will be taking 3 pre-IB classes and I like how the people I've talked to have told me that those classes are more focused on it's goals. The hall-ways may seem long but It's a good work out after sitting in seats for almost a hour! Before High-School I used to get picked on becuase of my looks, hight annd speech but at the High-School there are so many different types of people so there are no "standing Out" ones. SHS is like a second home for me. I love it and I give it 5 STARS!
Posted by a student on 8/16/2017SHS is an amazing school. It gets a lot of bad attention because negative things about the school are emphasized more than the positive things. Overall, it has a full IB program, offers the Inspire program, Smart Scholars, Votec, Pre-IB, and IB certificates as well as special Ed classes and classes in the arts. It's athletics department is amazing as well and it is packed with a variety of clubs and after school activities.
Posted by a student on 6/11/2015This school has grown very much throughout the years, if only the school was a bit bigger than it wouldnt seem so crowded. But overall the teachers are great. The counselors are always attentive to their students. The cafeteria is big and has many food choices ( healthy aswell). Theres not much bad that i can say, this school was the best. Class of 2008

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI’m very happy with my child’s experience at St. Kateri’s. How many kids do you know who get up set when there is a snow day? I don’t know many. But that is how my daughter feels. She is so happy to get back to her teacher and friends every day. I feel she is truly cared about at this school. Not only are the teachers caring, but the principal has to be one of the kindest and caring people I have ever met. It is clear that her number 1 priority is the well being of ALL the students at this school. I feel lucky that my daughter has so many caring people around her at school. And to me that is the most important thing. Her feeling of being safe and happy at school.Parent Review5y ago - St John The Evangelist
