Read what parents are saying about Paul D Schreiber Senior High SchoolMy daughter is in 9th grade in Schreiber and she is happy. She is taking honor classes and clubs. She said she loves the social walker that she is meeting with. She is in sessions with the counselor and older students to cultivate further years in Schreiber. She is excited about electives that she can take next year. She walks on Main Street with her friends after school to have fun. She told me that people in Schreiber are generally respectful and kind. She even witnessed one immediate action from school counselor when one of her friends was bullied. There will always be various bullying issues in all high schools, but I believe that people in Schreiber will try their best to solve problems and educate teenagers to be better members of this community. Lots of my friends recommended few different high schools with better school rating in Long Island. But this school was the best choice for my daughter.
Posted by a parent on 11/27/2022As a graduate of this school I adored it! As a trans person with mental illness the school was super supportive in my transition and was helpful too. Some of the teachers are not great but then there are some that really inspire you to do better. There is so many fun classes to take and the school offers a ton of freedom too.
Posted by a community member on 1/5/2022If you're anything besides white, heterosexual, and cisgender, you're not gonna have the greatest experience. The amount of microaggressions and mistreatment by students I've faced due to my race/sexuality/mental illnesses is tiring.
Posted by a student on 11/24/2021Both my sons graduated from Schreiber and it was an excellent experience.
Posted by a parent on 3/2/2021Teaching styles and amounts of homework vary by class, grade, and teacher, but the overall learning experience has been very good for my children, grades 8 and 10. Some of the mandated learning materials/topics has not been my favorite, but I think for the most part, that is a function of the state and federal government. The selection of classes in middle and high school allows for many educational choices and directions for the kids, and there is generally good support and extra help from quality teachers and staff. Also plenty of sports, extra curriculars, clubs, etc. No doubt that most children should be able to pursue whatever their endeavors are upon graduating from Schreiber HS, potentially including ivy league colleges and more.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis experience has been wonderful! Our daughter attended for three years and our son one. He'd run in without looking back. She was more hesitant, then couldn't stop talking about it. We moved to Port largely for this school and were not disappointed. The references were strong when we were deciding, and perhaps we'll chat if you're considering it. Many parents were educators (we're not), and we developed some close friendships. The name comes from "Project Spectrum," a research program that ran at Harvard under Howard Gardner and Mara Krechevsky. It's unrelated to the autism spectrum. The idea is that there are several types of intelligence (a "spectrum" of knowledge), and they can be cultivated in early childhood. My Spectrum School combines elements of this theory and the Reggio Emilia approach. It excels at translating theory into experiences. That's mostly because teachers care about kids, and kids aren't interested in Gardner. There's a commitment to longer-term themes (e.g., creativity, cognitive skills, STEAM), which informs curriculum. And they have a moment-by-moment approach: Teachers incorporate kids' interests and provide remarkable individual attention and differentiation. Class sizes are small enough to make that work. There's also some structure. Teachers stick to a routine for activities like arrival, lunch, playground, and departure---even if there can be considerable flexibility in between. Kids call adults by titles. Dr. D, Ms. Jennifer, and Mr. Jason became household names. The teachers are amazing, and it's hard to say enough good. Mr. Jason and Ms. Jennifer are bright, engaged, and passionate about the kids. They're also all-around wonderful people. Dr. D brings considerable experience with education theory and practice. Everyone had helpful insight at our conferences. They love talking about the kids. They were willing to reinforce things that we worked on at home, like empathy, imagination, or potty training. They will also tell it like it is: You'll hear something if your kid is in diapers at four or five. It is Long Island, after all.The facilities are large and thoughtfully designed. Mr. Jason teaches Pre-K students in one room. Ms. Jennifer and Dr. D have younger kids in another. There's a fair bit of crossover, where younger kids join the Pre-K students for some activities, parties, and play. Kids without younger siblings play eldest to the little ones, and likewise. We'll have fond memories.Parent Review1mo ago
