Read what parents are saying about John J Daly Elementary SchoolI have two children at Daly, one is about to graduate. It's a wonderful school with caring and supportive teachers and other staff. It is only getting better with time. Keep it up!
Posted by a parent on 2/28/2023We are in our third year at Daly and feel so lucky to have access to such a wonderful public school. Dr. Suzzan is a strong leader and rose to the challenge of managing through Covid beyond our expectations. We are 3/3 on our son having caring, committed, enthusiastic teachers. Our son is building a strong foundation for learning and feeling great about his progress. He receives OT and PT services in school. We feel like he has an entire team of professionals engaged in his learning. I would whole heartedly recommend this school to friends and family.
Posted by a parent on 9/19/2021We have had such a positive experience at the Daly School. Starting from the top, Dr. Suzzan, the Principal is a caring, thoughtful person who clearly has the respect of the teachers, staff and students alike. The school itself is very nice, and well maintained, in fact, the school has 2 playgrounds for the kids to play on during recess, as well as a large open grassy field. The teachers are extremely caring, and parents have the opportunity for a lot of participation in their child's education, along with many events for parents to attend and see their child's work, perform and so forth. There is a strong focus on academics, and the school has a full staff ready willing and able to address any learning disabilities. I would highly recommend Daly Elementary!
Posted by a parent on 6/4/2019Our sons experience in kindergarten has been fantastic. It is evident that the teachers not only care about test scores, but also care about each students well being and preparing children to be well behaved and well rounded students with a thirst to learn. Our son is receiving a great foundation to start their education.
Posted by a parent on 1/10/2019a great majority of this school is filled with children whose parents have an unrealistic sense of entitlement. The parents are so involved in the micro-managing of their children's school days, that the staff has their guard up for anyone they encounter. There is a lot of yelling from teachers and staff (lunch ladies) and no sense of joy when you walk the halls. Several of the teachers who actually "taught" have left. I took my child out and sent her to private school. Leadership is non-existent and it's a "daily" occurrence to see teachers on their cell phones during class. Before you move, make sure you live in the area for Sousa. I hear its much better.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis experience has been wonderful! Our daughter attended for three years and our son one. He'd run in without looking back. She was more hesitant, then couldn't stop talking about it. We moved to Port largely for this school and were not disappointed. The references were strong when we were deciding, and perhaps we'll chat if you're considering it. Many parents were educators (we're not), and we developed some close friendships. The name comes from "Project Spectrum," a research program that ran at Harvard under Howard Gardner and Mara Krechevsky. It's unrelated to the autism spectrum. The idea is that there are several types of intelligence (a "spectrum" of knowledge), and they can be cultivated in early childhood. My Spectrum School combines elements of this theory and the Reggio Emilia approach. It excels at translating theory into experiences. That's mostly because teachers care about kids, and kids aren't interested in Gardner. There's a commitment to longer-term themes (e.g., creativity, cognitive skills, STEAM), which informs curriculum. And they have a moment-by-moment approach: Teachers incorporate kids' interests and provide remarkable individual attention and differentiation. Class sizes are small enough to make that work. There's also some structure. Teachers stick to a routine for activities like arrival, lunch, playground, and departure---even if there can be considerable flexibility in between. Kids call adults by titles. Dr. D, Ms. Jennifer, and Mr. Jason became household names. The teachers are amazing, and it's hard to say enough good. Mr. Jason and Ms. Jennifer are bright, engaged, and passionate about the kids. They're also all-around wonderful people. Dr. D brings considerable experience with education theory and practice. Everyone had helpful insight at our conferences. They love talking about the kids. They were willing to reinforce things that we worked on at home, like empathy, imagination, or potty training. They will also tell it like it is: You'll hear something if your kid is in diapers at four or five. It is Long Island, after all.The facilities are large and thoughtfully designed. Mr. Jason teaches Pre-K students in one room. Ms. Jennifer and Dr. D have younger kids in another. There's a fair bit of crossover, where younger kids join the Pre-K students for some activities, parties, and play. Kids without younger siblings play eldest to the little ones, and likewise. We'll have fond memories.Parent Review1mo ago
