Read what parents are saying about School Of The Future High SchoolTerrible school! Absolutely no structure or consequences. Kids aren’t given any homework, they’re encouraged to use AI to write essays. My son is completely unprepared for college and has simply learned that as long as he turns something in, he will get a good grade. Even if he doesn’t turn anything in on time, he has weeks to do so with zero consequences. Teachers, and principal alike, don’t respond to emails. If you care about education, do NOT send your child to School of the Future HS!!
Posted by a parent on 1/26/2024I am a parent of a middle school student and I cannot get my child out of this school fast enough. I would NOT recommend this school for middle school or high school because their approach to academics is lackadaisical at best. Even though the school has some good teachers and the community is good, the administration does not care about the academic success of the students. Their implementation of the Jump Rope system has been a joke and does not accurately grade students. This school does not do ANYTHING to prepare students for high school since they assume kids will just have to stay because they will likely not get into any other public high schools. The top 20% of the students are sure to leave after middle school leaving other kids who need more support behind to suffer in a school that will not support them or prepare them for college. Given that this school was once highly regarded, it has really gone downhill. I highly recommend against this school.
Posted by a parent on 11/14/2023Although I will praise the school for its emphasis on academics, I have to point out that the middle school principal does a disservice to her students when she minimizes complaints of bullying at the school. Her attitude is "KIDS WILL BE KIDS" " IT IS A TOUGH WORLD OUT THERE SO THEY SHOULD GET USE TO IT-TOUGHEN UP". If you want to find out more, just ask the principal about the incident of a student member of the athletic team that posted an embarrassing video of a disabled student on Snapchat. Numerous complaints about bullying were made and were disregarded. Also, there is a lot of down playing when discriminatory remarks are made by the students. Stop worrying about statistics and instead encourage children to not only do well academically but to respect their peers (if they don't, then simply enforce the NYS rules about bullying).
Posted by a parent on 8/18/2016Ok, SOF is what you make of it, if you are a parent right now thinking about where to send your child to high school read this before, and evaluate if your child would excel in this type of environment. To put it short SOF is like a small liberal privet school with a very diverse community and a NYC public school budget. Currently I am a freshman in college, and now with about of year under my belt I hope that I can give some perspective. Many of my friends attended privet schools, Beacon, Elro, Lab, and bard. What I've notice is SOF is NOTHING like any other school. If you are looking for the typical high school experience go to beacon or Elro. I didn't realize it until I got to college that I grew up with such a diverse group of peers because it was so casual to me. And not just racially diverse or on social economic status, SOF has students that want to get into schools like Duke and Cornell, and a large amount of students who think high school is a joke. This is where many students who did not come into high school with motivation get frustrated. If you want more of an "experience school" go to SOF if you want a school that will only teach you how to take tests don't.
Posted by a student on 4/10/2015My daughter attended SOF for Middle School and loved it so much that SOF was her only choice for HS. Small student body and small classes means everyone knows each other. Unlike our Elementary School, there is Zero Bullying tolerated here and no one is marginalized. Fabulous teachers, every one! I have not met one yet who wasn't highly imaginative, caring and dedicated professionals. Demanding curriculum but expectations/rules are made clear. Excellent focus on Writing & on Special Ed. I have found the HS principal to be fair and compassionate. We love this little school...makes learning fun!

10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis is a good school because my child is making academic progress, is excited about learning, and enjoys the school community. The class sizes are larger than the ideal size. Yet, even with the larger class sizes, the teachers meet the challenges and they are experienced and qualified. The parent involvement is great. Since the school and the parents work together, it benefits the children. (I hope this year goes well.)Parent Review7mo ago - 47 the American Sign Language and English Lower School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe school administration and staff do not reflect the overall black and brown student population - most are white and hearing. After the long-time deaf principal left, the new principal is hearing and white. A huge disappointment and surprise in this day and age. The deaf and CODA kids need deaf role models to look up to. There’s no ASL being taught in this school, even though the school is a bilingual ASL and English school. Many of the teachers don’t know sign, so there’s no ASL in the classrooms. Another wasted year.Parent Review9mo ago - Epiphany Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am a former student who attended the Epiphany School for nine years. My lower school experience was mostly positive, but once I entered the upper school it all changed dramatically. Apart from a couple of great teachers, the rest were there not to teach, but to slam students with homework. I felt like I was teaching myself. It also seemed like half of them felt fed up with the entire concept of teaching or were more interested in checking their cell phones than doing their job. There was zero discipline in the classroom, with loud and disrespectful kids and no rules. The principal is impersonable and gives a strong impression that she does not care. There was a lot of bullying going on as well, which was either unnoticed or completely ignored by teachers. There were many cliques, and majority of students acted vicious if you did not agree with their views. I write this now with firsthand knowledge of what a good school experience can be like somewhere else. It is truly night and day!Other Review1y ago - United Nations International School
