Ps 397 Foster Laurie

Ps. 397 is a great elementary school. They have excellent teachers and staff that focus on the entire well-being of our kids. They go the extra mile to help our kids succeed. It's is also a very clean and family friendly environment. I must say that I would recommend this school to anyone who is seeking the best for their child.

As a parent, I am very pleased with this school. The former Assistant Principal is now the principal. She changed the school culture. Students and parents are happy. The test scores are going up. My twins both scored level 3 and 4 on the ELA and Math tests. Principal has an after school and Saturday test preparation for the students to help with homework, test preparation and extra activities like dance, drumming, art, jewelry making and theater. Parents are always invited to visit the classrooms and to participate in different activities.

We are very pleased with the school and so is our daughter who is in grade 2. The teachers are very dedicated and attentive to the needs and the learning levels of the children.I think that school has changed a lot since those old reviews from a long time ago.

This school has transformed. I plan to send my children here.The teachers are a team of extremely dedicated, loving and experienced people. Most internet information about the school is now outdated. PS 397 experienced a brief transitional period during a change of administrative leadership. ****The school is currently rated proficient and well developed in ALL areas cited for improvement. I have watched children flourish at Foster Laurie, not only academically, but socially and emotionally. I have seen children overcome great obstacles with the patient persistence of a loving team of highly educated professionals.

This school is terrible. A lot of politics between the principal and her staff. It interferes with decisions concerning safety and a good education for the children in the school. These principals have too much power, but are not utilizing it productively. They keep the old failing teachers around for far too long. Those teachers that are unproductive, encourage that behavior for the new staff. It becomes acceptable to continue to doing things the wrong way because they get paid anyway. And in the interim, the students produce poor grades. They should be embarassed to call themselves teachers. Years ago, that was a title that demanded respect. Not anymore.
