There are huge achievement gaps at this school. The school goal sets for small incremental gains as opposed to taking an aggressive approach to move all students to proficiency levels. It is concerning as this is a Title 1 school and I don’t believe that all of the resources are being made available to provide change. Parents aren’t expected to be part of the the culture of the school. If you’re looking to have bake sales and provide photo opportunities and not provide any real input, then this school is for you. Some teachers are not engaging. Pre pandemic, I did witness teachers yelling at their students. Perhaps they believe that this is the way to instruct students, but from the test scores, it does not work. Students perform well from K-2. Data on grades and proficiency looks a bit murky in grades 3-5. This has been an issue pre pandemic and the solution is to set goals to move up the number of students that are a t proficiency up a few points. Using this strategy, children won’t be at 50% proficiency for years to come. If you’re looking for real academic achievement for your child and a real partnership between parents and school, then this may not be the right fit or culture for you and your family.

I give this school five stars, my son loves it there, his teachers all of them are very accessible and can ask to meet them to discuss your child's progress and grades in the classroom. Also very friendly and hands on Principal Mr. Romain and Assistant Principal Miss Haynes. From Office staff to Teachers, parents can be more involved in building this school to the level it deserves to be viewed as. Overall I am very happy with this school and my second grader is even happier to get up and go everyday even during this crazy pandemic.

The Good-Administration communicates well regarding busing, upcoming events in school and district, etc.VERY SMALL PTA budget but there are caring parents that work hard for the students.The Bad-The academics are not strong at all. The school is diverse but not inclusive. The teachers pick who they want to participate and represent the school in different experiences. There is definitely CONSCIOUS bias towards the black students. They are very punitive towards the black students and engage the black parents with microaggressions. The black students notice it too. This plays into the weak academics because I believe they think the black kids are inferior so they don't challenge academically.There is an "open door policy" with the principal, but most don't use it because she has a very unwelcoming spirit. On the personal level, she comes off extremely biased, rude and defensive.
