Read what parents are saying about John Ericsson Middle School 126I was a former student of JEMS 126 and the school almost changed my personality. The students did nothing more than used me for answers for their assignments and I was usually bullied because I’m autistic, my self interests such as learning various subjects or my mixed ethnicity. Some of my former female classmates even teased me if I was gonna be dating or not, which I never found funny. One of them even kept kicking my bag because it has wheels. For me, distance learning was a blessing in disguise since I don’t have to come to school under fear of harassment, violence, or humiliation. Now in high school, my classmates respect me of my choices, my interests, and above all, my ethnicity. I even have an IEP so I can learn just as well as other students.P.S. I used a randomly created name on an alternate email account to anonymize my identity. Posted by a parent on 10/8/2013This school now has a new principal, a new curriculum and some very passionate teachers have been added to the staff. I have seen a tremendous improvement in the culture in this short time. I am certain that this school will improve tremendously over the course of this year and next. I plan to send my next child, currently a 4th grader, there as well.

Education wise, this school has the smartest kids in the Greenpoint/Williamsburg area. I have to admit, the teachers aren't always 100% nice, they give a lot of homework, and the school doesn't have a lot of extra-curricular activities, but in terms of your/your child's education, it is so worth it to go here.Other Review2y ago - P.S. 34 Oliver H Perry

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI love PS 34 and the community it fosters. It is a small but mighty school that feels like a village. The teachers and administrators are all very strong educators who foster a safe, challenging and warm environment for our kids. I am so happy our son is at PS 34 and can not wait for our daughter to join him!Parent Review4mo ago - Ps 110 The Monitor

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI’ve had a great experience with the school. The teachers are amazing. They really care about the students and work hard to make learning fun and engaging. The community of parents have become life long friends. It’s great to have the school right on the park. The kids are there every day after school being active.Parent Review1mo ago - Ps 132 The Conselyea School

Honestly, it is impressive that my kindergartner was able to progress on schedule with reading, math and communication skills given the extraordinary circumstances presented by the 2020-2021 school year. Even with the circumstances and challenges of remote learning, we were happy with the school up until Easter, when our child's teacher left on sudden long-term leave. The rest of the year with a sub in place the classroom was chaotic and stressful, even with teacher's aides there to help. We were disconcerted when our kiddo came home and told us she had been pushed by another student in class and that there was frequent name calling. When we approached the sub about this she assured us that our kiddo was going to be placed in G&T for first grade, where she would be more engaged and challenged and have a better classroom environment. So in my mind that was the solution. But we came to find out that for administrative reasons, no new students would be allowed into the G&T program unless they'd been placed on a waiting list the previous year. We were frustrated dealing with the administration and I felt more like a number than a person. We just could not get through to anyone "real" that could hear out our situation or concerns. In the end we decided to place our child in another school to avoid the extra stress of a classroom environment like the one she had for kindergarten at 132. Overall, they did a great job handling the pandemic but more effort to address the needs of students and place them according to their learning level would have kept us there. I can see why candidates campaigned to do away with G&T altogether. It feels like if you don't get in, your school experience can be a wildcard. Now that we have been through this I agree G&T should be done away with and the entire system fixed so that every classroom environment is a good one.Other Review2y ago - Northside Catholic Academy
