Read what parents are saying about Ps 17 Henry D Woodworth
Without any knowledge about American schools, we moved from Denmark to USA with our 3 kids last year. We visited PS 17 with our kids. they liked this school from the first time. We felt very welcome and professional service from the school staff. Our kids were not able to speak English. Now year after, they can write and speak fluently. The other subjects also reached the lever which they need to have. We are so proud them but we know all of these are school and teachers efforts. Its not easy move from country , home and friends, special in they are ages, but they school take care them with love which we as parents can fell that every single day. There is none day, I hear from kids, they don't want go to school. opposite they are always go to school with happy and trust. They fells so happy and safe with they teachers and proud they having the best teacher ... Really, we fell so lucky to have our kids in PS 17. The environment from school has created all the knowledge and love to our kids which are they most important in they are small world. We are so appreciate this school, they have made different.

I have seen the homework that my daughter comes home with. At such a young age she is to spell big words and 20 of them. My daughter frequently has gotten sick since first attending this school, she had brought in doctors notes and yet the school claims to have not receive them. What angers me most is that my daughter has a hard time understanding most of the work, hard time reading independently and as a mother Im trying so hard to help her.. The school decides to hold her back and has yet to help my daughter with most of whats needed to be worked on. My daughter has been bullied and the situation wasnt even handled properly. Teachers have complained about my parenting and her frequent absence. How do I know because its spoken in front of my daughter, told to my daughter. No matter how much I try to cope with everything it just seems as if this school is picky with parents and students, they tend to be lazy with there job. I plan to better this by pulling her out of school and finding a school that is willing to help me to better my daughters reading and other learning abilities.

My eldest daughter graduates from PS17 this year. She has been attending PS17 since Kindergarten and has loved every minute of it. She was on an IEP and the staff and administration have gone out of theri way to help her. She graduates with honors! My youngest daughter has attended K-1st here as well. She too is on a IEP and they have helped her tremendously. The teachers as well as the support services staff (OT, Speech, & Counseling) are exceptional, caring people. It is very clear how much they care about the kids. State testing rewsults do not come close to showing what this school is capable of doing for our children. We are moving out of the area and are sad to be leaving PS17. I highly recommend this school to all parents! The only downside is low % of parent involvement. Many parents in the area seem to think it is soley the schools job to tend to the education of our children. If you do not get involved your children will not grow to their full potential.

I think the staff are really doing a great job in looking after our children and teaching them to not only be focused learners but good people too
