As a teacher, I would not recommend this school for others. While the school and principal seem warm and inviting on the surface level, the truth is far from it. You only get to really see it once you’re in it and I wish someone would have warned me. As a teacher, I witnessed the principal use observations against teachers as a scare tactic, spread rumors about staff, and micromanage with unrealistic expectations. Every year, teachers leave in large groups. You’ll be told it’s because teachers got a job closer to home. But anyone can tell you that working for a leader who respects you and is fair to you, makes any kind of commute WORTH IT. Unfortunately, this doesn’t exist at this school. Another hidden truth, is they make the teachers take the school survey in a room together while admin circles around the room, and most rate favorably out of fear of retaliation. Beware!!!!

There are good teachers in this school for sure. But based on my experience, people who work here have no patience, no enthusiasm to teach, they just do not care about kids in general. The school doesn't have daily outdoor activities time. No communication to parents. I would suggest to avoid this school if you can.

My children attended this school and graduated recently. This is the best school in the neighborhood. The teachers are all experienced (some even attended PS 215 when they were kids) and there is a strong focus on teaching the whole child. My kids had lessons on social-emotional learning and had opportunities for leadership roles. The academics are strong and many of the 5th graders get accepted to District 21 magnet middle schools. The new principal has been there for a few years and she is very involved. I always saw her in the schoolyard at dismissal saying hello to families and taking the time to speak with parents. I was very happy with the experience my kids had at PS 215.

Three Chinese parents (real stories) told me that the school discriminated against Chinese children. Do not trust this school. Their children should be on PK-4, but were arranged to a lower level PK-3. The Principal did not tell these Chinese parents about the class arrangement until they discovered themselves. This school is dishonest and unethical. Be careful and be vigilant. Do not put your baby in this school.

I was a student there many years ago. The Priests & Sisters were great teachers...

I find that this school turns out excellent participating members of society who have good ambition, good minds, good ethics, etc. and the potential for great futures. I find Mirrer HS to be an excellent choice for the parents and their children who might be considering it.
