Al-Noor School

This school should be shut down. Everyday I hear stories of bullying and instead of helping the victim, they basically say to suck it up. Biases from authorities, frequent fights, and an environment where students dread coming to everyday. This is not how a school should be run. On top of being incredibly irresponsible, they are well aware of all their issues. During student evaluations, instead of allowing the students to say their true feelings and problems with the establishment, they told the students to lie. Why? Because they know if anyone else found out about these horrific conditions they're forcing the kids into, they'd be shut down immediately. If you love your children and don't want them to grow up insecure, confused, not to speak up, don't send them here.

We love PS 10! My kids transferred here last year and were immediately welcomed. The community, staff and Ms. Scott are all wonderful. The school offers such a wide range of programming that makes the school days exciting. There is no shortage of activities for the kids to get involved in such as music, chorus, cooking class and a robust after school programming with awesome classes. Some people say the school is enormous and has too many students but you don't see that and it truly feels like a smaller school. Some teachers are better than others and class sizes could be smaller.

We love PS925 - I've had two kids grow up here. The school is small - the teachers and admin know everyone. The atmosphere is welcoming, friendly, and supportive. The community of parents is great; there is lots of participation in the school and down-to-earth, inclusive atmosphere. The school is serving a diverse community and does it well.

I have two kids in the school this year and we absolutely adore it. It is not our zoned school and I am so glad we chose 124. It is a small school, which makes it feel like family. All the staff know my kids’ names and how to best engage them in learning. There is strong social-emotional support including free counseling through the CBO partner, Counseling in Schools. There is also low-cost extended care 3K-4K and free after school for K-5 through a partnership with YMCA. My children feel both challenged academically and safe in the school. There are many enrichment programs available as well including a full time art and music teacher as well dedicated science, social studies, and theater teachers; and external programs such as dance, improv, swimming, coding and Lego robotics, among others. Over the last two years, the school has shifted to incorporate more project- and play-based learning, recognizing that these are children and learning can take many forms, including how you interact with peers to strategize and solve math problems or read & write a story together.Of course every school has challenges, but it’s important to note that leadership is open to feedback and willing to work with individuals and families to best support them. The parent community is highly engaged, prioritizing family events over high priced galas and auctions. We love the diversity of the school — cultural, language, socioeconomic — as it reflects the broader NYC and global community. This is not something that can be said for other neighborhood schools. Unfortunately things have gone downhill a bit in the last couple years. Some of the best teachers have left, some of the current teachers really not up to par. Complaints to school administration are met with tepid responses. Their wonderful parent coordinator passed away last year and that leaves a gap that simply cannot be repaired, she was the glue holding many things together. Mostly white teachers with mostly BIPOC students. I would think twice about sending a neurodiverse student here too. They will continue to score well on exams because they teach aggressively for that but my kids experience of school this tear has been a disappointment. Counseling and psychology are good but not good enough to make up for the very low emotional intelligence of some of the teachers.
