Posted by a student on 11/24/2014This school is the worst ! I'm a actual student going into my senior year & staff and teachers doesn't want you too progress in school, they let you do whatever you want no discipline corporates at all. The principal stays in her office 24/7 and never is there when you need even the guidance counselor. I hate this school. Please don't send your kids here! If you look at the graduation rate it is very very low so that should tell you alot. If I knew what I knew then about this school and had a earlier transfer I would've but it was already too late. School is infested with "ghetto kids" and bugs everywhere . There are fights almost every week and a lot of kids get bullied, the punishment is never harsh kids will return to school within five days or less. This school is very unfair. Board of Ed should really take a look into this school and and shut it down.
Posted by a community member on 7/12/2013I am an actual student unsupervised by any teachers. so i can tell you the truth about the school. The good: You can do well if you work hard, supportive staff, after school tutoring provided, and community service help available. The bad: the school used to be a factory and is very old, a lot of "ghetto" kids, lack of athletic programs, and overly crowded staircases and hallways that may make you late. Summary: The school is pretty good but just make sure that you associate yourself with the right people and take work seriously.

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child started kindergarten at PS11 in 2021 and we couldn’t be happier with the decision to choose this school. All the staff are so supportive and caring. The principal (Ms. Hope), assistant principal (Mrs. Rand) , and parent coordinator (Mr. Rand) are some of the sweetest, most concise and informative people you will ever meet. The PTA members and volunteers are on top of everything as well and work on so many functions and events throughout the school year to keep the students and families engaged and involved. Strong communication, community, trust, kindness, and compassion are only a few of the things that come to mind when it comes to describing our experience at PS11. This school cares about different cultures and it is actually part of the curriculum. I would categorize this school as academically rigorous. Lots of projects and homework which is something that my family appreciate (can you expect any less from a school that strives for academic excellence?). Not so sure about my daughter because at this age, they just want to play. She’ll come to appreciate it in time. ;) There’s also a plethora of after school enrichment programs like art, baking, ceramics, coding, chess, science, tennis, drama, dance, swimming!! That’s just to name a few! The teachers, so far, are a hit or miss. I guess it comes down to personality. Some people are more organized than others. As long as the newer teachers are willing to learn the culture of the school and are receptive to it, that’s a plus. So far, no major issues with the teachers. They have been very caring and committed. Daughter likes her teacher and is treated with respect in class so that makes us as parents happy. The students seem friendly (gauging only from a kindergarten through first grade aspect). Our daughter is very quiet and we thought it would be tough for her to make friends. We were wrong. The friends that she has made are the sweetest little things and they make her happy. She wouldn’t want to trade that for any other school.Parent Review11mo ago - Ps 56 Lewis H Latimer

The teachers are incredibly committed, nurturing, observant and thoughtful. All children should have access to a school like this.Parent Review1y ago - Bethel Elementary School
