Very positive. OF course, as with all institutions, there is room for improvement, but I am impressed with how they dealt with my children and the community at large.

8- my children bond with their peers and teachers alike. The staff are well aware of the needs of tree students and work collaboratively to provide what is needed. The principal is extremely approachable and reasonable to talk to; she didn't hide behind her title or a desk. Where most schools across the city have few activities to compliment academics, 316 has a chock full. The PTA also does an outstanding job of building relationships within the community and moving the school in the right direction.

This school has being a night mare for me as a parent who is normally very involved in my childs develipment and education. I see the word "diverse" in every other comment here. This school has two white kids in five of their second grade classes. May be one mexican. The rest is African American. How this is called diverse, I don't understand. My son is bilingual and goes through the school program in another language at home. every year it is told to his new teacher. There is exactly zero concern or attention to that fact. Although the school is screaming in every paper they distribute to parents how they strive for diversity. It is all in words, not in reality of this school whatsoever. It only sounds good on paper. The administration.every time you have a question, there first answer is 'I don't know, I am not responsible for this.' Then you spend huge ammounts of time and energy trying to find out who is in charge and how to get any help. Lucky if you get any help at all.I tried to enroll my kid in after school violin classes in kindergarten. They would loose the paper I filled out, they would tell me at the office, again and again, they don't know who is responsible, and after even finding the coordinator for after school activities and her promising my son will be in the violins class, nothing happened. They made a video for the local news about new computer room they built, what is my childs computer knowledge? The only things he learnt on his ipad at home. their communication with the parents. Regardless of attempts of the new pta leader, it is bad. The only time you get to go inside the school is during teacher parent conference. Other times you are kept out of it. Very welcoming! When picking the kid up from school, you stand outside and call the cell phone number of the after school program teacher. They normally don't pick up their phone right away. So on average it takes about 20 min, from the moment I arrive at the school, till i get my child back. The latest example of this school disorganization is the 2nd grades trip to the swimming pool, when they bussed all the kids to the pool to find out it was closed that day. How is that for a wonderful organizing.I think this school is also one of the most conservative in the city, where the students are made to pledge to the American flag every morning.

This is a school where the school security guard knows parents and cares for children as he would his own. The principal is amazing, and also cares above and beyond her job as a school leader. Is the school perfect? No, there is some racial tensions as the neighborhood has changed, just like many urban areas. In general, parents send their kids here for the caring and loving environment, plus the many extracurricular activities. If you want a cookie-cutter environment where all the students look like each other, this is not that school. It is diverse (please note the Gifted and Talented program is also diverse), and that was a huge draw for me.

PS 316 is one of the best if not the best school in district 17. My son was at the montessori school for pre-k in lefferts gardens, when through subbing I found this school. He has been in the G&T class since kindergarten and will now be attending the second grade. The student body is diverse and the school offers various clubs. My son has thus far taken the violin and guitar. There is a new after school program in addition to the clubs starting this year too. The guidance counselors and speach teachers are wonderful. The teachers are caring and hardworking. The principal is empathetic to the needs of the students and she always has a moment to talk with the parents. The school has gotten "A /Well Developed" rating on the quality review too. PS 316 gets better every year.
