H P Fitzgerald Elementary School

I was so excited to get my son into this school. He is a huge fan of the arts and excels at them. Unfortunately his first year here (1st) COVID put a stop to it. I was very unhappy with the children not being allowed to attend school in person, but I did end up loving his teacher (Ms. Chickering) who was amazing! I was excited when they got to go back, even though it was with masks on their faces (abuse). Then finding out they were getting an extra month I was very happy because my son needed it. Little did I know that would be cut short by emotional abuse from the staff. Convincing children who are not sick that they are is wrong. Allowing a sick child in and then punishing all the others because of their mistake. My son is not sick and would not be sent if he was, yet he is being forced to miss school which he loves or be sent to the “sick room”. A healthy child being sent to a room for those who are sick. My healthy son was forced to leave school crying and asking me what he did wrong that he had to leave. These administrators have no interest in what is best for these students. They should be removed from their positions for being abusive to children.

Its an ok school has everything in its favor to be a good school but staff definitely needs to step it up. We need friendlier staff starting with the front desk to the teachers and management. We forget to use our manners and remember we work with kids who need patience, kindness, love. I feel like this school is wanting to always have there mean faces on and be so strict maybe for the older kids but dont forget there's younger ones there too and they have to love to come to school and see friendly faces not grouchy strict faces all the time.

As far as homework, Kit Carson Elementary School is a very good school to go to. Homework is assigned on Monday and is due on Friday of that same week. The teachers are very nice. The only time the teachers aren't nice to students is during discipline. When the teachers get a bad note from a substitute, the lecture is for everyone because you knew what was expected from your teacher so all of the students saying the teacher was mean are only saying this because they got yelled at for doing the things that they did. I am a former student at Kit Carson and it was a pleasure being there. I was there from Pre-K to 5th grade and never have I been accused of doing something I know I didn't do. This school needs improvement on how they work on bullying. I think when students are bullied the teachers aren't addressing the situation as they should. Every teacher, counselor, and principal has faith in all of their students no matter how the child acts. I do believe that some of the issues that go on with students are because of what they are taught at home. Some parents feel the need to not address some situations with their children and I understand why, but the things that your child does, they get it from their parents so parents need to watch what they are doing around their children. Overall this school is a very good school and I recommend for every student that lives on the westside to go there.

My son seems to be “targeted” he can not speak for himself, but always seems to be the one punished or we get told the “violence” and “lashing out” he does. He is slightly autistic and has an issue with speech, he can not tell you if someone is doing something wrong or to him. Reviews and opinions can change all the time but for now this is what i think. They can not give an explanation as to what led to my son having to be “restrained” cause he was scratching and kicking and spitting when i have never seen him “lash out” ever. Not saying because he is my son and i know the difficulties behind him, but what the teachers portray him as, is not it.

My son started the Prek3 program this school year. By far the WORST EXPERIENCE! Principal is extremely rude and my sons teacher at the time didn't have any classroom management skills.They also don't follow the School Handbook. Myself or my husband would get called multiple times to pick up our son because he wasn't dancing during dance class or he was crying. He wasn't rpc or suspended. They would say "Oh he needs a break at home, bring him back tomorrow" .Principal would tell me our son tested low on test scores but she wouldn't give me the test scores for weeks. The stories they would tell us about our son was ridiculous. I caught them in their lies multiple times and they refused to take accountability. All the times I asked for a conference with his teacher, it was ignored and was told to wait until parent teacher conferences which was weeks away. As soon as my husband asked for a meeting with the principal and teacher it scheduled right away but she insisted on bringing 6 other staff members to the meeting and giving him some test scores that looked as if it was put together right before the meeting. The test scores didn't add up at all. Stating that our son needs to be on a behavior plan. Our son was withdrawn that same day. Our son is thriving and happy at his new school.Also be careful sending your child to after school care. They lack supervision. I could go on and on about our experience. Definitely don't recommend this school.The school lacks communication, professionalism, parent engagement and supervision.
