Lummis Elementary school is a place where students are provided with experiences to enrich their minds, social skills and learn to be outstanding citizens in the community. Students are surrounded by faculty who demonstrate exceptional dedication to their profession. Community outreach experiences provide Lummis Lasers with an opportunity to look past themselves and find joy in caring for others. The PTA is a wonderful bridge between school and home- always organizing activities to engage families in their students education. The administration is passionate about what’s best for kids. They set high expectations for behavior, which has unfortunately become lax in other schools. This allows for maximized learning time with minimized interruptions. If you are looking for a place to be an equal partner in your child’s education and part of a community with a shared focus on creating life long learners, Lummis is the place for you.

I love how all the staff provided a lot of help for my daughter and us thank you so much all the staff very kind and attentive to every detail I plenty recommend it to all our neighbors.

My child was just removed from pre-k via text! This is a delicate situation that should have probably been handled in person. The problems were brought to our attention 1 week prior to what their intentions were of dismissal and wanted it corrected in a week! Very unprofessional ladies….

I went here for like 3 months and there was sooooo much drama with I'm surprised about considering it is an elementary school but the staff is nice I overall would recommend it kinda

My daughters have gone to Darnell Elementary for 3 years. The teachers and staff are amazing. My daughters come home everyday raving about their learning and the activities they do at the school. They showed huge growth in their academics as proven by their test scores and grades. I would recommend this school to ALL students and can’t wait to send my daughters back again.

Challenger School – Summerlin pushes children far beyond what is developmentally appropriate and ignores the emotional and physical fallout that comes with that kind of pressure.Our kindergartner is not a struggling student — she reads independently and does double-digit math — yet Challenger labeled her as “not grasping the curriculum” and brought up academic probation at five years old. If a school is talking about probation for a kindergartner, that tells you everything about their priorities.The emotional damage was worse than the academics. Our daughter started crying before school, begging to stay home, asking to be homeschooled, and grinding her teeth at night. Teeth grinding is not “not liking school” — it’s a physical stress response. Challenger’s environment caused it, and that alone was enough for us to pull her out.There is zero meaningful attention given to mental health, emotional safety, or developmental readiness. The school’s philosophy is simple: keep up with the accelerated pace or get labeled. The burden is put on the child, not the system.If your child happens to be a fast-processing, pressure-proof robot who thrives on drilling and compliance, maybe this works. For most actual five-year-olds, it’s harmful. Challenger confuses acceleration with excellence. There’s nothing excellent about creating anxiety and physical stress symptoms in a kindergartner.We withdrew for one reason: no academic program is worth destroying a child’s confidence or nervous system.Parents need to stop pretending pressure is rigor. It’s not. It’s negligence disguised as “high expectations.If you’re considering Challenger – Summerlin, here are the red flags we ignored:1. Probation language in kindergartenIf a school threatens academic probation in K, run. No five-year-old should be on “probation” for not meeting an adult timeline. Our child is far above average 2. Zero emotional supportThere is no system in place for anxiety, stress, sensitivity, or adjustment. If your kid struggles, they will be treated like a problem, not a person.3. Uniform pacing — no exceptionsChildren are expected to move at the same accelerated speed. If they don’t, they’re labeled as behind, even when they’re ahead by normal standards.4. Stress symptoms brushed offWhen a child cries daily, begs to stay home, or develops physical signs of stress, a school that truly understands children responds. Challenger doesn’t.
