Read what parents are saying about Hillside Elementary SchoolI had a wonderful experience with Hillside Elementary and plan to send my youngest child there. My oldest who went their from grades 1-5 has continued to do really well. He did terrible in OPS his Kindergarten year where he was not provided opportunities for independant learning and meeting his potential that he did receive through HIllside. It is probably the poorest school in the district but I loved that he was exposed to diversity and could see we weren't alone in our financial struggles. He never told me or complained about being looked down on for not wearing the nicest clothes or trendy styles. Thank you Hillside for all you did for my son.
Posted by a parent on 3/15/2018Hillside is a wonderful school. The teachers are very experienced and/or have graduate degrees. We had very good experiences here with General Education and Special Needs Teachers. Only occasionally did we get assigned to a teacher who was not up-to-speed on fully accommodating for special needs, mainly due to their lack of experience at Hillside (or in general - brand new teacher).
Posted by a community member on 11/14/2016I have only wonderful things to say about Hillside! This is my 3rd grade son's second year there, and he continues to flourish with the help of the dedicated teachers and support staff. His reading deficiencies were quickly identified and through an intensive reading program, he is at/above grade level reading now. He was very behind when we moved here from Albuquerque. All of his teachers have been incredibly supportive and responsive! The district is very competitive, which is why I think the school has a lower rating. This is a much better school than what the rating reflects.

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAdams Elementary was great when my kid started. In the last 2 years, everything has gone down hill. The school does not have enough teachers for the students. Each grade has 2 classes of about 18-20 kids with the exception of 4th grade where there is only one teacher. Because of this, the students that are independent learners are in a classroom with 5th graders and the one 4th grade class is large and most of the kids require attention that they are not receiving. Many of the children have behavioral issues and when visiting you will see many sitting by the office as they have had to be removed from the class. The staff does what they can to help all the kids but do not have the capacity to provide the necessary attention that is required. Parents of children at this school tend to not hold their children accountable for their actions and instead will call and yell at the teachers and administration. My child has fallen so far behind because they are being bullied by other children and struggles to keep up in class because they are not getting the help necessary.Parent Review5mo ago - Benson West Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe moved from NYC 6 years ago and started my daughter here. She is now in 7th grade and my son in 3rd grade. The entire ILS community is welcoming and supportive. The teachers are what make this school outstanding! My children have been taught and trained to be great human beings. I couldn't recommend this school more.Parent Review3y ago - St Pius X/St Leo Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe chose to send our two boys to SPSL from Pre-K to 8th and could not be happier with the decision. It was an excellent investment all around! As non-Catholics, we were unsure if SPSL would be a good fit but finding a challenging academic program with a focus on diversity and service to others was important in our decision. We toured five other schools in the Midtown area. We immediately felt welcome and comfortable in the culture of SPSL. They say “Everyone is Welcome!” and you can feel the sincerity in halls and classrooms.Other Review3mo ago
