Read what parents are saying about Cedar Ridge HighThe school has had three principals in the four years my kids have been there. The current principal is not available to speak with parents. If you have any concerns, she’ll ignore your emails or assign you to speak with another administrator who is also new. You will be given a chance to speak to the other staff person but you will never be given a response. Teacher turnover has been significant due to poor governance by the three principals. The quality teachers have left. Teachers that remain have no oversight by administration and therefore kids do not learn. The scheduling process is abysmal with kids getting the wrong classes or classes they have no interest in. Getting the schedules corrected is nearly impossible as the school has plenty of administrators but no guidance counselors. Support for students wishing to go to college does not exist, again no guidance staff. It is unclear to me what all the administrators do but their time is not spent getting to know or supporting the students. Athletics is biased towards boys. Simple things like posting game schedules do not include girls sports. Managing coaches is not actively handled by the athletic director. There are no on site safety measures taken for kids competing in sports other than football.
Posted by a parent on 5/10/2023I'm a teacher in this school and I feel like it is a supportive teaching environment and administration turnover is a bit concerning, but all of our individual administrators does their best. The other teachers work hard. Students here are not any better or worse than other schools where I have taught, although they recognize the lack of consistency in administrators and know they can get away with a lot more before disciplinary action is taken. Our school would benefit from consistent leadership and a strong supportive leader.
Posted by a teacher on 12/5/2019I am a student at Cedar Ridge and over the past couple of years the school has gone downhill. Overall they have nice facilities but don't let that fool you. Since they have lost the majority of their best faculty and staff, students are left with very few outstanding teachers. As a student I only recognize the principal, and other faculty are still unknown to me. This year Cedar Ridge's athletics have also suffered. The overall high school experience has diminished since we only had a JV football team. The walls are left bare due to the lack of color and personality within the school and students withhold a sense of school pride. Pep rally's have been taken away from students because of overly strict policies that don't allow students to have fun. This leads students to the decision to leave school before any "fun" activities. Lunch time is also a disaster because students are forced to schedule themselves for tutoring even if they're doing fine is classes. During lunch students aren't allowed to leave campus even though Cedar Ridge is only a few miles from downtown Hillsborough. Cedar Ridge has potential to be a great school but it is going to take time to make a change to the current situation.
Posted by a student on 5/4/2019I am a student at Cedar Ridge and so far my experience has been great! They offer many different athletic and cultural extra curricular activities, in addition to extensive offerings in AP and IB classes. I have been able to make lots of new friends and I have found that Cedar Ridge is much more "homey" and welcoming as compared to other schools in the area. This is most likely due to the fact that Cedar Ridge is on the small side for a high school based on the number of students it currently has enrolled. Other people on this page have been discussing a particular issue with a teacher sharing their political views with their class earlier this year, however this teacher has since left the school and the administration has done a good job of making sure that other teachers are not including their personal beliefs in their lessons. Overall, this school is one of the best that I have attended.
Posted by a student on 6/20/2017Teachers should not be teaching their political opinions to our children, they should be teaching behavior and strategy from the schools curriculum.

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating Averagethis school is a disgrace to the world of academics. The few teachers that actually taught me at this school were the ones with the least experience and were treated the worst. The school had little to no "social emotional support" for students and failed to support students who were falling behind or excelling at the work provided. It had very poor support for classes outside of the main four classes, and most days the "learning" that happened n these classes were nothing but sitting down of sleeping, the music class was the worst, every day we did nothing but watch music videos on the projector, however I will admit that recess and lunch time was a good experience for me.Other Review2mo ago - Grady Brown Elementary

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAvoid this school. My son gets homework, maybe once a week. More often than not it's every other week and he can do it in less than 15 minutes. He is supposed to be in AIG classes but he's not being challenged at all. Communication from this school is weak. We missed the bus one morning which made my son remember that he was supposed to tell me that someone on the route moved so the bus schedule had changed. There was no note home, no phone call, just a "hey kid, don't forget to tell your folks." Most of the papers coming home to me are requests to buy things or offer donations. My son keeps getting in trouble for responding negatively to bullying (my son said the f-word). If they'd stop the bullying he wouldn't have to respond and wouldn't get in trouble in the first place. I recently found out two kids were suspended for climbing the school roof which apparently had easy access because of the construction going on. First off, why aren't they being supervised properly? Second, construction should really happen when school is out like during summer. I understand time constraints and costs etc but the school recently closed early because of a power outage due to the construction. Apparently, it's not safe and it interrupts the school. So get that stuff done while school is out.I usually don't complain but I really hate this school. If only we had moved a mile east we could have entered the Chapel Hill school district instead.Parent Review6y ago - Hillsborough Elementary

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child has been in this school for 5 years and we will surely miss it. All the staff knew my child and were friendly to us too. Lots of parent support equaled lots of nice perks for the kids. I do wish there was more than one counselor though.Parent Review6y ago - Pinewoods Montessori School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe're new to Pinewoods this year and have a child in Lower Elementary. We have nothing but wonderful things to say about the Pinewoods community, staff, and our child's experience in school there. Our child was learning from home for the past three years due to Covid, and we wanted a caring, loving, supportive school environment with strong academics, ample outdoor time, and outdoor eating. We've been so impressed by the staff's willingness to accommodate any need that we have. Our child's teacher has gone above and beyond in her care for the class and for our particular child. She is warm, loving, and honest. Our son has learned so much in just a short time. The mixed ages classroom has been a real asset both academically and socially. The opportunities he has to dive more deeply into his learning has improved his focus and concentration in a wide range of school subjects. He's thriving in his classroom, excited about what he's learning every day, and has made many friends. We'll definitely be returning to Pinewoods next year and encourage any family to explore the Pinewoods community. Their enrollment is at an all-time high, so you'll want to check them out as soon as you can!Parent Review1y ago - Hillsborough Christian Academy
