As a parent of a student with disabilities, I expected J W Coon to provide basic accommodations and support. Instead, we experienced:MEDICATION REFUSAL: Despite providing documentation, staff wouldn't administer prescribed medication while constantly complaining about "missing paperwork" and even after they had the updated instructions, they did not give him his medication. NO ACADEMIC SUPPORT: Teachers compared my child to neurotypical students and demanded equal performance without providing required accommodations 504 PLAN VIOLATIONS: Ignored legally-binding accommodations and actively blocked IEP evaluation despite clear need ZERO COMMUNICATION: Never informed me about problems until they became crises HOSTILE TO DISABILITY NEEDS: Staff seemed annoyed by requests for basic supportsThis school creates impossible barriers for students who learn differently. If your child has an IEP/504, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere - JW Coon will fight against providing services rather than help your child succeed.

Rockfish is a wonderful school. Teachers work hard and are very involved with our students learning. They give updates and check in regularly with how they are doing and things that can be done at home to help them succeed better where they might be struggling. Administration always listens to concerns if there are any that arise and do everything they can to fix it. The school is older and really could use a whole entire new building but that’s up to the county. So many amazing families and they put on family events at least once a month. We really appreciate all the hard work rockfish puts in for their students and our children.

My teen started going here after being bullied relentlessly from another faith-based school even after admin involvement. My child has thrived here and is motivated by teachers and peers to work hard and put forth best effort. I am glad this option was available for our family. Easy to communicate with teachers and staff, great mentoring by the teachers and coaches. The students are all held to a high standard and respect is demonstrated by all.
