St. Raphael the Archangel

Overall we found this school to be just okay. The related arts offerings left a lot to be desired - art class was mostly coloring sheets, PE class was just tag and sometimes they "watched a yoga video on YouTube" according to my kids, music class was non-existent. I felt like my children's academic needs weren't being met and they did A TON of screen time during school. A lot of teacher turn over and inexperienced teachers.We stayed for two years and eventually transferred my children to a different school. We are much happier at our neighborhood SLPS school.

As a former teacher I know student safety and staff safety is not a priority. In the last couple years the staff as turned over as new admin took over.

My children have totally blossomed at Betty Wheeler CJA (formerly known as Kennard CJA). We transferred from another school and have been blown away. Many teachers have been working there for more than 5-10 years. There is a dedicated staff, great PTO, and great principal. There's many related arts options (drama, Spanish, Chess, art, music, PE, library). The playground has great mature tree cover. Beautiful building in a lovely neighborhood. We love Betty Wheeler!!

My grandson had a wonderful experience in the Robotics Program / Robotics Club. GSA excels in this are primarily due to the teachers / coaches that teach the students. Royal Gasimov was especially helpful and always went the extra mile to support the students. The overall facilities and property is in mediocre condition and there are no fields, tracks, etc. for extracurricular activities. In my opinion...it seemed that especially after the covid era...there was little to no homework. and the workload was lightened to possibly help the overall student grade point average appear higher. Teachers seemed to be very caring and helpful in getting students caught up when they fall behind. I was also disappointed to learn that one semester, my grandson didn't get to go outside for any kind of lunch break, PE, or otherwise. Apparently, the following semester he would, when his schedule changed. However, every student needs to take breaks, and if the weather is decent, why not let them take a break and get some fresh air, and then the students would be more alert for their next class. There is a diverse music program and my grandson always enjoyed learning different instruments. The concerts were impressive and the teacher very supportive to their students.
