Read what parents are saying about Central High SchoolBoth of my Daughters attend Central and are in the IB programs, and have joined the A+ program. Both sing in the Choir and are members of the Kilties the oldest all female drum and bugle corps in the nation. Proud traditional values.
Posted by a parent on 8/31/2022Central is an amazing school. Both my girls have had nothing but incredible experiences at Central. Staff, teachers, and principals are incredible with the kids.
Posted by a parent on 10/18/2017We love Central! Wouldn't go anywhere else in Springfield. Very liberal school, which is a great fit for me and my family.
Posted by a community member on 5/26/2014The level of education at Central seems great at first. They have the IB program and are highly ranked nationally. The problem is that they spend too much time focusing on acceptance of liberal, worldly ideals. We are not a crazy right wing family but my son hated the widespread promotion of homosexuality. When studying history with him, the books had obvious bias against US history, focusing more on the negative and less on the contributions of our great Nation. He had a couple of great teachers, but the curriculum was extremely liberal. His conservative Christian views were attacked by students, and not supported at all by teachers. My son transferred to Kickapoo, all honors classes, seems to be learning just as much, and is much much happier.
Posted by a parent on 5/31/2013Qualified students have the option to participate in the International Baccalaureate program, a rigorous college-prep curriculum. Many of the fine arts programs have won national awards, and some of the sports teams are good (not football though, at least not for the past ten years). There is also a full-time gifted program for middle school students that gives them the opportunity to take high school classes and advanced middle school classes. There is a good program for students with English as a second language. There is a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. Check out the school's website for more information about all of the great opportunities! -2009 Alumna

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI would recommend this as one of the best elementary schools in Springfield. Small classes, caring teachers, walkable to neighbors in Woodland Heights, but without the endless busy-ness of a more affluent school. Our kids are flourishing and excelling academically. I credit this largely to the positive atmosphere that encourages a love of learning at his school.Parent Review4y ago - Boyd Elementary School

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageExcellent school I know a lot of the staff personally and have kept up to date with the school itself ever since I attended 15 years ago. This school offers so many extra activities and programs for the students, rewards hardwork and feeds into an excellent middle and high school. I couldn't be more Happy with my experience there. My children will certainly be attending this school.Other Review5y ago - Weaver Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur overall experience at Weller has been great. The kids are rewarded for hard work, supported when they need it, engaged and enriched by genuine teachers, and cared for on a community level beyond what any other school we've attended has done. Before Weller, our kids were bogged down with homework, unhappy and mediocre in their studies, and we had no desire to be involved but now as PTO parents, with kids who are thriving and succeeding beyond the score charts, we couldn't be happier or more grateful for Weller Elementary.Parent Review5y ago - St. Joseph Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have mixed feelings about Dayspring. First of all, the staff really cares for the students. The principal is excellent and desires the best for her students. However, the school is overseen by a board from the church. If you are a member of the church or you work at the school, you will know these people and be able to work with them. Otherwise, they will make decisions about your child without even contacting you.Our son was expelled for texting foul language to other students. I get that this was a final straw and I do not defend my son's actions. However, I have reviewed the texts and can say that his language was no different than the others in his class. The kids that go to the church are not being punished for cussing at my son or using racial slurs toward him. As parents we were not brought in to this discussion, though other parents were. All in all, this is a school for children that go to Dayspring Church. If you do not, you are not in the in-crowd and your child will be treated accordingly.Parent Review1mo ago - St Agnes Schools
