Current Principal Kristine McGuire’s handling of a recent morning drop-off interaction was unnecessarily confrontational and left my child visibly upset and frightened. School procedures can be communicated and enforced without causing unnecessary distress to students.Although I had heard great thin
Posted by a parent on 10/2/2026My kids went there. This school thrives because it encourages parent involvement. My kids went on to be accepted into some of the top 15 colleges in the country. We bought our house specifically to be within Woodland's boundaries. Excellent for high achievement.
Posted by a parent on 11/26/2021This school does not take the necessary stepsTo stop bullying. I’n addition, if you are a minority you are looked differently by staff the classmates since this district does not have a big population in color students. My son did not get the needs he needed based in his special needs. Awful school
Posted by a parent on 9/21/2021My children went there more than 10 years ago. This school thought it was high class and the variety of students was none. All came from relatively high-income families and the teachers and principal especially catered to that. I found District 196 good overall, elementary so-so, middle school much

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI attended Oak Ridge more than 30 years ago and had a great experience. Now, as a parent of two children at the school, I’m happy to say our family is having that same great experience today.I know Oak Ridge sometimes gets a bad reputation because its standardized test scores are below the state average. But test scores alone simply do not tell the full story of a school. There are many factors that influence those numbers that have little to do with the quality of the teachers, staff, or curriculum, and I think that’s important for parents to understand when evaluating any school. Both of my children consistently score well into the 90th percentile on standardized testing, and they are thriving at Oak Ridge. While they may be ahead of some of their peers academically, we have never felt like they are being held back or aren't being challenged. The school has done a great job recognizing where each child is academically and creating individualized plans that continue to push them forward.More importantly, my kids genuinely enjoy going to school. They like their teachers, feel comfortable with the staff, and are excited to learn. As a parent, it’s been reassuring to see teachers who know my children as individuals rather than simply teaching everyone at the same level.I experienced Oak Ridge first as a student and now, decades later, as a parent. From both perspectives, I have a lot of appreciation for this school and the people who work there. I would encourage prospective parents not to judge Oak Ridge—or any school—solely by a number on a website. Visit the school, meet the teachers and staff, and see what the environment is actually like. Our experience has been overwhelmingly positive, and I’m very glad my kids are here.Parent Review2mo ago - Faithful Shepherd Catholic School
