St Gerard Elementary School

All of my kids attended this school growing up. They look forward to class and activities every day. Highly caring and committed staff. They really embrace our children, education, diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and accountability on all counts. Staff really provides tools are kids need to be successful as they approach highschool and life skills. Highly recommend.

My son is now a 2nd grade AI (autism impaired) student (there since kindergarten) and our experience has been wonderful. He's improved in every area. The teachers are often firm but very much care for the students. The classroom aids have always gone above and beyond. I've had no trouble advocating for my son or any issues with upholding his IEP. If there has ever been an issue where my son is hurt or injured I always receive a call letting me know what happened and how it was handled. As a parent I have been able to go into the school and volunteer. I've seen the teachers and staff in action. They genuinely care for the kids. The PTA always is very involved and constantly doing things for children.

I have had my daughter in Cumberland since gsrp. I have had nothing but great teachers. Mrs Dugan, Mrs. Love, and Mrs Bush are awesome teachers. I have witnessed the principal interact with the children several times. She's awesome with them.

Great. My son is doing well in 1rst grade. Teachers are nice and treat kids well.

Our child has been at Colt for preschool and kindergarten, and we've had a great experience. Preschool here was more affordable than other schools at the time we started, and the instruction was great as far as we are concerned. Our child learned everything we would expect them to academically, and grew in social skills as well. We were able to start with half day preschool and transition to full day halfway through the year, which we appreciated. I love that my child was able to transition to kindergarten with the familiarity of the same school, familiar staff, and peers. I am very impressed with my child's academic progress in kindergarten. We have read books daily at home for years, but not worked a ton on letter sounds. Adding this in at school this year has our child reading simple stories! We see their teacher every day at dismissal, so there is opportunity to connect if needed. Classroom seating is changed every couple weeks so everyone gets to know each other, and I see the school making a real effort to teach social emotional skills as well. Overall great experience so far. I would love to see more parent involvement with PTO, but I expect most families have two working parents/coparents, which can make after school commitments challenging. One of the special education teachers oversees PTO presently, while helping to engage more parents to take the lead. Talk about a dedicated staff member. We appreciate all staff who we've always observed interacting with kindness and creating a welcoming environment. It's great to see the racial diversity at dropoff and pickup as well. We appreciate this being the norm for our children.

New Covenant Christian School offers high-quality academics, prepares students very well for college, and is more of a family environment than an institution. Its student body and staff are very diverse economically & ethnically, celebrating differences and our commonality as children of God! The staff at this school care deeply about the success of each student, and are teaching at this school because they believe in the mission here and care about the students and their unique interests and abilities. Much of the success of this school is due to the parents being very involved and "linking arms" with the teachers & staff in support and service to the children.

Last year was my daughter’s first year at GLAS. She was a transfer from Holt Public School District where she was bullied. She is also a student who requires extra help due to learning disabilities and being low vision. In one year she went from a second grade reading level to a fifth grade reading level. The classroom sizes are much smaller but they are also combined classrooms so they get the opportunity to hear and learn information from multiple grades at the same time as for instance 6, 7 and part of the 8th grade class are taught together. I wish I would have started her there as mom wanted from the beginning. It is well worth the money. And they will work with you on the financial side.
