Read what parents are saying about Montessori Childrens HouseExcellent.... The staff and parent community are the best
Posted by a parent on 3/26/2019This school helped me raise my son. The staff and administration have become an influential part of my child’s life and my own!
Posted by a parent on 1/7/2019Unfortunately, this school takes a very privileged and ableist perspective to learning. It used to be that Montessori was a lovely alternative to traditional teaching that appealed in particular to parents who wanted wider horizons for their kids and more creative and INCLUSIVE learning environments for them. Now, every other child is identified as sensory-seeking and families are shamed and told that the Montessori environment is not the best place for their child. One teacher in particular at this school has the reputation of treating active children as the crisis of the century and is incapable of creating safe and productive bonds with those children. Characteristics that are considered “non-Montessori“ get this comment from that teacher: “I just don’t have the time” (this was a class of 20 students with a full-time aide). When our child came home saying “the teacher didn’t want me today” (!) we switched schools. At the next preschool, the teacher (with a bigger class of students!) took a much more reasoned and inclusive approach: “ if I weren’t prepared to deal with the normal challenges of preschoolers, I shouldn’t be in this profession.” The contrast between these teachers’ comments speaks volumes about their respective approaches to teaching small children. We originally chose Montessori because we wanted a kind, gentle, and welcoming place for our “whole child” to learn (an important but recently forgotten Montessori tenet). For us, it was none of those things.
Posted by a parent on 12/16/2018As a previous student, I really enjoyed attending here. The teachers have lots of experience which are helpful when having to learn from them. Not only do they teach you curriculum, but they also teach you how to learn in a way the is most beneficial to you and your style. I loved the amount of diversity at the school because you don't always get that at other schools. You also learn good character and integrity here, which can be so difficult to find when choosing a school.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI would rate this school 2 out of 10. I’ve never dealt with the lack of compassion the kids have towards each other. They play “30 sec” where they fight for 30 sec even the kids that don’t want to play have to play. This school is setup for kids to get hurt. Just be aware when sending your child hereParent Review4y ago - Mid-Michigan Leadership Academy

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAll of my kids attended this school growing up. They look forward to class and activities every day. Highly caring and committed staff. They really embrace our children, education, diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and accountability on all counts. Staff really provides tools are kids need to be successful as they approach highschool and life skills. Highly recommend.Parent Review1y ago - Riddle Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur child has been at Colt for preschool and kindergarten, and we've had a great experience. Preschool here was more affordable than other schools at the time we started, and the instruction was great as far as we are concerned. Our child learned everything we would expect them to academically, and grew in social skills as well. We were able to start with half day preschool and transition to full day halfway through the year, which we appreciated. I love that my child was able to transition to kindergarten with the familiarity of the same school, familiar staff, and peers. I am very impressed with my child's academic progress in kindergarten. We have read books daily at home for years, but not worked a ton on letter sounds. Adding this in at school this year has our child reading simple stories! We see their teacher every day at dismissal, so there is opportunity to connect if needed. Classroom seating is changed every couple weeks so everyone gets to know each other, and I see the school making a real effort to teach social emotional skills as well. Overall great experience so far. I would love to see more parent involvement with PTO, but I expect most families have two working parents/coparents, which can make after school commitments challenging. One of the special education teachers oversees PTO presently, while helping to engage more parents to take the lead. Talk about a dedicated staff member. We appreciate all staff who we've always observed interacting with kindness and creating a welcoming environment. It's great to see the racial diversity at dropoff and pickup as well. We appreciate this being the norm for our children.Parent Review1mo ago - Emanuel Lutheran School
