Read what parents are saying about St Catherine Laboure SchoolVery good school. Solidly Catholic. Very diverse in teacher and students. Bilingual assistance to families who need it. New principal is very dynamic and engaging. Small enrollment both a blessing and a curse. The school struggles financially - its Christian charity of giving a lot of aid probably causes problems. Teachers are lovely. There is a feeling of community and family there. Everyone works hard to make this school work. They aren't fancy - but they use well what they have. They address issues that have come up- and get things resolved.
Posted by a parent on 1/29/2013My son and daughter attended SCL three years ago. The teachers there were very capable and committed to providing a solid Catholic school education. In terms of resources, SCL did its best to provide technology and other tools, but it was an ongoing struggle. We stayed at SCL for three years and probably would have remained if it weren t for my daughter s problem with certain cliques at the school. The girls in my daughter s class were not kind to her and the administration really didn t help the situation because many of these girls parents were very involved with the school. At first I thought it was a just phase but my daughter routinely came home in tears after being picked-on and excluded from many parties and social activities. Although this was never a problem for my son, our daughter was miserable, so we finally decided to change schools. This was the right decision for our family as our daughter is thriving and much happier now. Since leaving SCL, we ve learned that several families left the school because their daughters went through the same experience...we recently ran into another family.
Posted by a parent on 9/14/2012St. Catherine Laboure School has struggled financially like many private schools in the area. The school has a very capable and qualified administration and staff to educate students. Most importantly, the adults care for and know each student. Families that are involved support the school in all ways and keep the community thriving. The small size of the school accentuates the family feel and the attention to each student's needs. If you want value, diversity, care, and the Word of God for your child, you may trust in this school.
Posted by a parent on 8/24/2012I have been involved actively with the school for ten years. I have sent my two children to this school and they have received a geat education, but what they have really recieved was a very sold, firm gounding in teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and more importantly in the love and knowledge of Jesus Christ. THIS IS WHAT TRULY MATTERS IN THE LONG RUN!!! I am not sure what school these reviewers are talking about. For instance, the english speaking and bilingual office staff are very courteous: there is no "study group sessions" associated with the school at night and so on and so on. True, there are some "bad teachers, uninvolved parents and questionable students" but this is true of every school every where. Few schools could boast, however, of the true Catholic Christian Spirit that comes from Saint Catherine Laboure School and Parish Community. It's diversity, struggles and fellowships are its greatest attributes!
Posted by a parent on 6/24/2012I heard about this school and dropped by but everyone acted like they didn't know anything . I tried going by the school and visiting for a study group session but it was horrific. the study group starts at 7pm ends at 8pm ...that's what it says on the site and speaking to the deacon on the phone. Everything was confirmed and I was to drop by that night. No one came I waited 45 minutes ...also no one could even tell me the entrance to the study group session. I am already angry and the person who answered the phone barely knew English and can hardly understand her .....my first time experience visiting the school was horrific and I never want to go back.....

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have been beyond thrilled with Rock View. My child absolutely loves going to school each day. One of my favorite things is how diverse the school is, which you really see at all of the great school events. The PTA is very active which is a definite plus. Overall I am happy my child is receiving a great education, while also having a chance to learn about diversity and community.Parent Review6mo ago - Viers Mill Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe teachers are highly qualified and engaged and the staff is dedicated to student learning. Class sizes are small, and the facilities are excellent. The PE teacher, art teacher, music teacher, media specialist and counselor are all out of this world - the school really loves their kids and helps them to do their best.Parent Review2y ago - Weller Road Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy children have gained social confidence and grown in their general and subject-matter knowledge through their time at Weller Road Elementary School. Teachers, educators, and leadership are caring, accessible, and smart people and I feel comfortable knowing my children are learning with them. The community is engaged and active, and events at the school are interesting, fun, and educational. Field trips have been beneficial to my children's growth, and the day is structured in a way that keeps my children's minds active and on topic. The daily specials (P.E., STEM, art, music, etc) are always a highlight when my kids talk about their day. I am a very happy parent!Parent Review1y ago - Sargent Shriver Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have been really happy with my experience at Arcola Elementary. I've been very pleased to see how aware the school is of families' differing economic constraints and the efforts made to ensure all students have access to resources. For example, last year all students received a backpack with school supplies. This ensured that students had the materials they needed for a successful year, without drawing attention to which students had more need than others. I'm also excited to see how the PTA has grown this past year, particularly its impressive fundraising efforts. They were able to fund a lot of great programs and activities that benefited the children's learning. Also important-- the teachers are great! I really appreciate the communication I received from my daughter's teacher. Whenever I reached out with a question, I always received a prompt reply. Finally, I'm thrilled with the great introduction to learning my child received this past year. My child's reading and math skills have improved significantly this past year, and I can't wait to see what she learns in 1st grade.Parent Review9mo ago - Crossway Community Montessori School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe were strung along for a whole month just for them to come back and tell us they couldn’t accept my child because they think he needed “one on one attention”, he is 7 and there are only 3 kids in his class so I don’t see how in the 6 hours school day can they not afford to give one-on-one time for each child? They made it sound like it’s a safe haven for all kids and they “don’t label kids” but embrace them, my child has some ADHD and I was forthcoming about that, yet they told me they know how to handle that and let the kids be themselves, we kept waiting for a month when it was already mid-year (due to our move) and my child was home the entire time, they made it sound like it was a done deal until they came back to us with a rejection, I also asked them if I can enroll my 3 year old there and they (the principal Ann) promised to email me the needed info for that but didn’t do it, in my eyes that’s lack of integrity and professionalism. I gave three stars for teaching just because teacher Eric sounded like a fully engaged and caring person, unfortunately we never got the chance to try his skills.Parent Review1y ago
