Rock View Elementary School

This school was an absolute nightmare and ultimately made us leave MoCo and Maryland. Our daughter was relentlessly sexually harassed through out 5th grade and the school would do absolutely nothing to help her. They would not even move the boys to another classroom after they spoke about dreaming of raping her and wishing they could see through her clothes. The things these 5th grade boys said to her were absolutely revolting. The principal and MCPS destroyed her faith in humanity. It is a vile place to send your children. We moved to a different state after this experience and it is amazing in retrospect just how far MCPS has falling and what a terrible school system it actually is. Ask yourself why so many of your neighbors send their children to private school.

We have been part of Kensington Parkwood Elementary School since my children started first grade, My two kids are now in 2nd and 4th grade, and they both truly love their school.The teachers are caring, patient, and dedicated they go above and beyond to make sure every student feels supported. The staff and administration are always approachable and committed to creating a safe, welcoming environment. My children come home excited to share what they’ve learned, which tells me they feel both challenged and inspired.The families here are friendly and involved, and it really feels like a team effort to give our children the best foundation.

We were strung along for a whole month just for them to come back and tell us they couldn’t accept my child because they think he needed “one on one attention”, he is 7 and there are only 3 kids in his class so I don’t see how in the 6 hours school day can they not afford to give one-on-one time for each child? They made it sound like it’s a safe haven for all kids and they “don’t label kids” but embrace them, my child has some ADHD and I was forthcoming about that, yet they told me they know how to handle that and let the kids be themselves, we kept waiting for a month when it was already mid-year (due to our move) and my child was home the entire time, they made it sound like it was a done deal until they came back to us with a rejection, I also asked them if I can enroll my 3 year old there and they (the principal Ann) promised to email me the needed info for that but didn’t do it, in my eyes that’s lack of integrity and professionalism. I gave three stars for teaching just because teacher Eric sounded like a fully engaged and caring person, unfortunately we never got the chance to try his skills.

10 years ago, we found White Flint Children’s House for our oldest daughter. She immediately liked the place and had three wonderful years there. She developed strong reading and math skills and also made friends that she still spends time with. Now our two younger children are also in WFCH. During COVID, we saw the loss of some teachers and programs, but the school has rebuilt most of them in the last year or so. Our 6 year old is in the kindergarten program. The teachers and the programs helped her overcome the social-emotional challenges brought on by COVID, and gain the same confidence and strong academic skills her sister had. Our 2 year old has been in the toddler program since he was 18 months, and also seems to really enjoy the company of his teachers and friends. Ms Margaret, the head of the school is the most dedicated teacher / administrator I have ever met! The school also has a very diverse student body and many kids with multiracial / multicultural background. We believe that 3-6 years are the most critical years in a person’s development, and we feel lucky to have found WFCH for our kids.
