Read what parents are saying about Lucy V. Barnsley Elementary SchoolOut of the 4 schools I've been to, Barnsley is my all-time favorite. The CES program was the best part of my schooling because the advanced learning put me ahead of my peers once I got to middle school. Even during the Covid pandemic, the teachers were extremely supportive and went out of their way to make sure we got a proper education. They also have a great program for people who are deaf or hard of hearing! I highly recommend checking out this Blue Ribbon school, especially to attend the CES program!
Posted by a community member on 10/27/2023This school was ABSOLUTELY THE BEST!! I have met the best people here, such as my current best friend, my favorite teacher, and other friends. The environment is friendly and supportive, with a lot of opportunities for help and learning. It's easy to navigate around and every teacher is cooperative and very very friendly. Never once at my time in this school have I met a bad teacher. 10/10.
Posted by a community member on 4/19/2022My experience and Barnsley was AMAZING!!! It was the best school I have ever gone to. I was there in the GT program, and made TONS of friends there. My time there was awesome. If I could go there for the first time 1,000,000 times over, I would. I would definitely recommend. The teachers are also great, and my peers were very well-behaved. Great school. It even supports kids with disabilities! They have separate classes for them, and they monitor them and teach them nicely. There was never any bullying towards anyone, and I loved my time there. Teachers were also very nice. They adjusted to our personalities, and made sure the environment we were in was safe and welcoming.
Posted by a community member on 3/18/2021All schools have bad teachers - but we only found one of them at Barnsley Elementary. My kids (one in GT, one not) had stellar experiences in the classroom - and during their time there, they both actually WANTED to go to school! The GT program was phenomenal, but we were quite pleased with the non-GT teachers as well. Specials teachers are very good. Field Day is phenomenal. Staff will help if parents can't afford a fee. The principal (new since 2011) is very approachable for parents - but would do well to delegate some of his responsibilities. Teachers here are great - and they deserve the chance to shine.
Posted by a parent on 5/5/2015My kid went to GT porgram for 2 years, then he is in middle school now. Barnsley has excellent music programs and great teachers. The music program was fantastic and got most kdis involved and enjoyed. My kid made best freinds there and I do love the school.

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have never seen a school in MCPS who cares about their students quite like Brookhaven ES. I wish I could have my son stay here but sadly, he is in 5th grade this year. I highly recommend this school because they care about their students not only academically, but also, emotionally. I will never forget one time, I have received a phone call from one of the teacher telling me how my son was acting different about two days in a row. And I know my son is a very active and positive child. So I went to talk to him and he shared what was bothering him and I gave him my advise and since then I felt more connected to him at his age. I knew then, I wasn’t absent on that stage of his life. And I thank them because they are very involved with the students and parents. I love this school, I have way too many stories why this is a perfect school to get your child start up with. Go bobcats!Parent Review3y ago - Flower Valley Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy oldest daughter who’s now in Highschool (11th grade) went to Maryvale Elementary, and it laid the foundation of academic discipline for her to excel throughout the years. She’s now taking AP courses and is enrolled in Montgomery College dual enrollment program. My youngest is in her last year at Maryvale as of 2021. It’s been an amazing experience for her as well. The French immersion program is fantastic. Kudos to all the wonderful teachers and staff and special shout-out to Mrs. Prin, Principal, and Mr Bowerman, Vice Principal. They are simply exceptional leaders who truly care and they certainly shone bright throughout the pandemic with their unwavering support and availability. The Maryvale family has been great to my daughters. If you’re considering this school, I highly recommend it.Parent Review2y ago - Meadow Hall Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe school teachers use an app called ClassDoJo in order to communicate with parents. The MH PTA is very strong and supportive. Bus drivers are always on time, and breakfast is for free no matter the income. Lunch is $2.55 with no Gov support etc., which is very inexpensive, teacher/student ratio is very low as well. No complaints on my end.Parent Review4mo ago - Rock Creek Valley Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBoth my sons went to RCV and did great. Wonderful neighborhood school where kids and parents walk to everyday. These generalized reviews are idiotic, apparently there is some aspect of wholeness that is not up to par. Pfft.. Oh, both boys graduated from UMD and I think there great start is because of RCVParent Review1y ago - Faith Arts Academy

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have had a wonderful experience at this school. Mrs. Reed in the 2-3 room is fantastic and really cares for the children. Our son absolutely loves her. He's also learned a lot-- he already learned his ABCs at 3, which we weren't expecting. The PM care staff are also kind and very helpful. This story pretty much sums it up: my son was playing "school" at home with me. He pretended to be the teacher and wanted me to be the student. He then gave me a big hug and told me he loved me, because that's what teachers do. :)Parent Review5y ago - Norbeck Montessori Center
