Read what parents are saying about Laurel High SchoolLiterally, this is probably—the worst school in Laurel. I've seen people having inappropriate interactions with each other and some people actually got pregnant. People would start fights and no one would do anything until 5-10 minutes later with security. The buildings are old and run down and people would smoke weed around the school. The learning in this school sucks believe me I graduated not long ago. The teachers would give the bare minimum to keep us busy and don't teach a single thing. I honestly wish I could've gone to another school to learn but sadly, I couldn't because of my parent's situation. The school doesn't support the students... I HAD A COUNSELOR WHO TOLD ME I SHOULD WAIT ANOTHER YEAR TO APPLY TO COLLEGE..... just because I had a mediocre GPA?? Anyway, I still applied to the colleges I wanted and I got accepted without their help.... STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCHOOL IF ALL POSSIBLE!!!
Posted by a community member on 9/26/2023Zero stars would be given if possible. This school is AWFUL and so are the staff. My child has been cursed at while going here and has lacked a great deal of support. The process to enroll to now has been trying, challenging, and abrasive (Mrs. Lawson-the registrar). I am also unsure of what the counselors are there for other than to make schedules because this seems to be where their skillset ends. Bottom line is: If it is a neighborhood school- MOVE or get special permission for an ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL. This school makes it hard for children to succeed as many staff worry about the most insignificant things rather than the students abilities and this is not only a TROUBLING concern throughout many school systems, but also at Laurel High School. If there is a high drop-out rate from this school I would NOT be surprised. I wish I knew before I set my child up for failure but sending them to this incapable institution. It is a true disappointment and my child's learning overall has plummeted since the arrival to this place.PLEASE DONT SEND YOUR KID HERE. THEY WILL BEGIN TO HATE SCHOOL. (Speaking from experience)Signed,An EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED Mother

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSchool environment is very safe and encouraging and engaging my kids and all their friends love to go to school each day. PTO is very involved and plan really fun activities throughout the year. School is very diverse and teachers are very patient and really care about the education and making school a pleasant environment. Mrs. Stahler the principal is very involved and you can tell she really cares about the school and all the kids.Parent Review5mo ago - Scotchtown Hills Elementary School

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe principal who's name is Jewel Preston lost her mind talking to me like I'm a kid and I'm older than her. I came to get my kid at 1:30 which is 15 minutes before they get out and she had the nerve to tell me I can't get him until school is over. In the past I picked him up 3 times at that same time. I was talking to another staff member about am I able to get my son if it's an emergency by then it was only 2 minutes of school left then Preston the principal jumped in my conversation and raised her voice telling me I don't have any emergency and she's right I because I never said I did I was just asking a question. She started raising her voice and being rude when I kindly told her I was not talking to her. She told me to get my son when school is out and slammed the front door in my face. Now if she talks to a parent like that, imagine how she treats the kids. You can't let stuff like that go which I'm not. Don't even bother talking to the superintendent because most likely they're buddies. You have to go over him or her to get results.;3Parent Review1y ago - Faith Baptist Christian School

We have had excellent communication with the teachers, we have been able to set up conferences with our child's teacher, we have been able to recieve updates on her progress in the class and the progress of the class in general. So far each year the teachers have been great at communicating and answering questions via phone call, in person, email, or throuh the ClassDojo app. The homework and classwork she has brought home has always come back with feedback from the teacher. Also the results we received in the mail from the standardized test that were taken make me confident in the education she has received. On top of that I really appreciate the level of Christian education incorporated in the classes as well. The student teacher ratio is perfect for the students to get the support they need from the teacher. It is quite different than the 1:26 ratio at our local public school. I have seen some poor reviews online and I can't speak on every grade level or every teacher but so far we have loved our Christian Academy experience. From Academics, Extracurricular Activities, and Christian education it has been a great experience so far.Parent Review7mo ago
